Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

Yep, thats an old thread. The results are amazing until you compare them against the 91 hour project timeframe. Definitely took the hard way about things. He says he spent 55 hours solely on wetsanding. With that amount of time and sandpaper invested (and sandpaper is expensive), he may as well have just dropped the car off at a paint shop and had a fresh deep layer of clear coat instead of sanding more than halfway through that one. And while the car was at the shop he couldve worked on a different project or sat his duff on the couch. I would be embarassed to say I spent 55 hours on wetsanding an old paintjob, I did my entire truck about 12 and that was longer than i wanted to spend on it. Definitely a publicity motivated job, because there is no way it made any direct profit.

thats my thoughts honestly to have someone do that for me id be better off repainting the car especially seeing the dent in the quater panel. so its gonna need it.

Most good detailers charge around $30 an hour. So with that estimate thats a $2730 detailing. How many beat up trans am owners are willing to spend that?

The original thread stated that he was specifically looking for a car like this to do. I doubt the owner payed anywhere near that amount Joel. I think this was a good case to show off his talents. What looks better to the untrained eye; a well taken care of car being brought back to show car status, or a car that others would assume destroyed and in need of a new paint job being brought back to being a presentable car?

It was definitely a good case to show off his talents, no doubt. I have done jobs similar to that for the same reason. But I also think he is overexaggerating what was necessary to do it. A 91 hour job is more than 11 days... thats more than 2 full work weeks to do that. I am NEVER one to rush detailing but I don't think I would be overconfident at all to think I could pull the same job off in 3 days with no difference to the 'untrained eye' whatsoever.
I give the guy credit for doing a fantastic job but if that had taken me 91 hours I would have just kept that little bit to myself when posting about it

Agreed on the fact that he is probably padding his hours. Especially since I believe this was a detailing trip that he traveled around California? to do. I think that is what the thread on ls1tech said. But as far as padding his hours, meh. No harm no foul.

So I have a question about this. After he was done wetsanding the car, did he apply a layer of clearcoat afterwards? (after the compound and polishing)
My car desperately needs this kind of attention after I gave it a wash before the winter and saw the paint is in much need of attention. This may save me a lot of money if I can do this instead of getting the whole car repainted.
Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere.
For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day, you shall have a track day, a Sabbath of competing, to time the FIREBIRD; whoever does any work on it shall be put in last place.

No he didn't that is the original clear coat in the final product. Your car may not even need wet sanding to achieve those results.
