I disagree, 2000 is plenty. Then you have to be worried about wheel marks , and rubbing through.Originally posted by Curt_irocz View Post3000 is definitely not over kill. Not if you want that mirror finish.
We usually charge by the time it takes. Most of the cars we do have been repainted so it depends laquer or clearcoat and how much dirt is in the paint etc.Originally posted by WMCCjames View PostI agree...I've seen some shops that charge up to $500 for a wetsand/buff/detail.
But 130 to do an entire car is a bargain. By the time you wash, tape up the car, wetsand, compound, polish, wax, You have a lot of time and a supplies invested.

Yes, 3000 is like sanding your car with a piece of paper. It isn't very abrasive but enough to dull your clear. Just don't sit in one spot for too long and you will be fine. I would never use any lower grit than 3000 on stock clear IMO.Originally posted by Joedashredder93 View PostWould this work for my car which still has the factory paint job or is the clear coat too thin. I have so many swirl marks and junk to get out. I should really get a new paint job but two days wet-sanding the car is alot cheaper2002 Z28 Camaro A4

the buffing process we have it a 3 step process. 3000 is overkill IMO.Originally posted by Curt_irocz View Post3000 is definitely not over kill. Not if you want that mirror finish.
We have 3 different compounds we use after we wet sand a car. 3 different compounds, 3 different pads....works wonders. Then we polish it after that.
LOL...what do you think the rubbing compound is for? You wet sand with 3000, then use a rubbing compound that takes out scratches that are heavier then that.
Its all about the compounds and pads you use after the wet sand. We use 2 different foam pads for the 1st 2 steps then a wool pad for the final step.sigpic
