  • Paint for the engine compartment?

Well, I've progressed my project car to the point that I now need to repaint the firewall/engine compartment due to fire damage. I plan to paint it black, since the car won't be red when I get done with it, and the "final" exterior color hasn't been decided on yet.
Is there any special type of paint I should use for the engine compartment? Does it need to be actual automotive body paint, or is that overkill?

most just use rustoleum professional for a cheap nice look, but i went and sanded down my whole engine bay and painted it showroom glossy blue

I would definitely go with some hi-temp, preferably Duplicolor 1200' because it'll withstand heat and maybe oil...I know the VHT stuff has ceramic in it.

      Used to own a Firebird.

that won't really be needed since hes painting the engine bay not the engine. it would be cheaper to buy normal paint.
