So the paint on my Camaro looks shitty, I'm gonna get it redone the dark green 4th gens come in, but my question is this:
Do you have to pull the door seals off to paint it properly? I'm getting my door seals done (t-tops and doors have leaked like a mother ****er since I bought it) and the service manager used to work for Fisher Body and told me 86 F-bodies have the HARDEST door seals to replace, 10 hour job most likely, and I don't want them to have to pull them back off to paint it. So yeah.. questions somewhere in that rambling.

well i can't tell you about the door seals, but please don't get that green, metallic forest or something like that right? A kid at my schools just got his 94 z28 painted that color, IMO, it doesn't look fast, mean, or too stylish. Its kind of like seeing a sweet 06 black z06, then next to it seeing another 06 convertible with the tan top, tan interior, and that dark red color. Now to me the black one looks better. But its your car, just saying what I think.

I don't think it'd look bad on my car, I love green too. The only other option is the green my dads truck is.

Honestly, to get it done "properly" the entire doors should come off. Especially if you are changing the color of the vehilce.

On a 4th Gen I believe the color is hunter green. Look at nick's engine compartment. His car was green, then black, now orange, and will soon be black again. It is very expensive to paint a car right. I am having my car painted doors and etc still on the car, same color, and I am looking at $1500+. At the same body shop for doors and etc. off I was quoted $3000-4000. Good luck man. If you can find someone who does the work out of their garage instead of a shop you will save $$$.

Yes, my car was originally Polo Green, the dark green color you are talking about. When it was painted black, the doors came off. When it was painted orange, the doors came off. When I repaint it Tangerine Pearl, the doors will come off. Since my dad is getting the garage ready to paint cars in, I'm going to get mine painted for less than $400. The cool part is that since the new color is so close to the old color, I don't have to take the doors off. The engine compartment will be spraypainted black when the motor comes out. The LT1 will be rattlecanned Chevy Engine Red before it goes in. It's going to be awesome when I get the time and money to do it.

It depends on how professional you want the paint job to look. If you leave the seals you'll want to mask really well around them and try to pull them back some so you won't see the old color around them. When I painted my Sonoma I blew it apart to paint it. the only thing that didn't get painted was the firewall because I wasn't going to pull the motor to mess with it. The doors were left on but all the seals and latches were removed and masked around the interior. I did a two tone so it was even more fun masking front and back edges of the door jams to make the two tone flow through the whole door.

Im a painter you want to take all the doors off. all the seals off. do the jams first than put the doors, hatch ,and hood back on and spray the rest. if you want a good job. and it takes time too. and its not cheap.!

My dad mentioned to me these little clip things that you shove under the rubber peices on the car and tape to the glass, like the trim around the windows and stuff, and it pulls the trim up enough so you can paint underneath it and make a more seamless transition without removing the seals. They're pretty neat, IDK what they're called or how they work exactly, but they work good.

thats the perffesional way to do it.

$400????? When I had mine painted 10 years ago I paid more than that just for the paint. Pearl colors are not cheap to paint. so you better double check your price on the paint.

I was gonna say something about the price too. I have about $700 into my truck's paint and that was still using some leftover primer and hardner and a few other things that my dad had left over from painting other stuff. I even used the cheap PPG Omni stuff and not the high end PPG stuff which is double or more than the Omni.

I think just the pearl stage of the 3 stage paint (Base, Pearl, Clear) on my car was over $400. But whatever he probabaly never checked prices and is just shooting from the hip. LOL

ok i know i've probally whored this picture out already but i like the green on this car.

It's your ride though, just don't go with any pastel colors, that's the worst idea ever. Sharp colors make for a mean looking ride.
