  • Safe to powerwash my LS1?

My block and heads have been getting a little greasy plus I live on a dirt road so that doesn't help it. I'd like to wash it while it's still kinda clean but how well are all the electrical connections sealed around the coil packs, fuel injectors, etc. I'll be covering the alternator with saran wrap to keep water off of it but is there anything I should avoid splashing? or will powerwashing my block and getting water on the harnesses and everything screw it up? I'm thinking it's sealed very well, looking at the harnesses.

I've got a job interview at Murray's tomorrow @2pm so...

I wouldn't power wash it. Go buy some Engine Bay Cleaner stuff. Comes in an aerosol can and has instructions. Like warm the engine up and spray it on. Rinse with normal garden hose pressure, etc. it works great. Good luck!

Also If you run into problems starting it, take apart the electrical connections and spray WD40 in them. Cover your coils also.

Cover the pcm with saran wrap and use some engine brite orange foam cleaner, spray it all over and wait the recommended time before starting it up and hosing it off with a garden hose while running, I do it all the time and it works wonders.

I actually don't have an Opti so happy I don't ever have to worry about one shorting out due to moisture. But now I think I'm just gonna spray some wd40 on a rag and wipe like mad.

WD-40 is a great cleaner but then again it is oil so have fun when all the dust, dirt, and grime stick to it after it's all clean. Cover your dist., battery, pcm, and intake. Hose the motor down while it's running. Shut the car off, spray somed egreaser and wait a couple minutes then scrub everything down. Start the car again and hose it down. Let the car run for 20-30min after you rinsed it to dry up all the water.

I power wash mine at least once a year. I am just carefull not to spray directly at anything electrical and I make sure the nozzle is at least 3-4 feet away from the engine bay.

our detail department does it all day long. i use a hose on engine all the time. dont spray directly at any electrical stuff and you will be fine. If your really worried get like 5 cans of brake clean and go to town. It will do way better than wd-40 will ever do.

I've been washing mine at the quarter car wash for years.
I use the engine cleaner then spray it off with water but never use the full pressure.

you can cover the alternator and other electrical devices and drive it to a quarter wash and spray on the engine degreaser and let it set then use the payn spray. dont squuze the trigger you get just enough pressure to aim and control but not enough to hurt anything

I run the full power wash across the whole engine compartment very quickly everytime I wash. Mostly to dust everything off and to get the soap suds off that snuck in from the outside. No problems (...so far).
