  • tip for removing bugs and tar

So last night was a good night to clean out the truck and wash it. No after making several 6 hour trips during the night, you can imagine how many bugs I had on the front of my truck. after spending too much time on it, my dad walks about from wet sanding parts for his car and says here try this. I have heard it works. What do I see in his hands. But WD-40 and a small dry cloth towel. He sprays a small amount on and rubs the bugs off like it was nothing. It also helped remove tar and when you have white car, you don't want anything showing up on the paint. Here is a picture of the front after cleaning it. It was dark and hard to find a parking lot with good lighting, but I plan to take more pictures today on my lunch.

And for all those who might think I was crazy for doing this you can check out this link: http://www.wd40.com/Brands/wd40_faqs.html

the wd40 can used to have that on it, that is what it's for is cleaning, it's not an oil or penetrating fluid

Huh, good to know, never even heard about it. I do however love WD-40 and its many uses so I'm not surprised.

The best crap for white paint I've found is 3M Fine Rubbing Compound. Yes, it does take the wax off, but also removes fine scratches and paint discoloration and oxidation.

                Fantastic stuff for white paint.

Thanks, maybe I'll pick some up next time something won't come off or out. Luckily at this point, no minor or major scratches.

NOPE, WD-40 is NOT silicon base. Silicon is what causes the paint problems. WD-40 is made from fish oils if I remember correctly.

                        You are absolutely correct Gary.

                        What does WD-40 contain?
While the ingredients in WD-40 are secret, we can tell you what WD-40 does NOT contain. WD-40 does not contain silicone, kerosene, water, wax, graphite, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), or any known cancer-causing agents.

                          Yep.

Great for a cleaner...not so much for a lubricant.

I like PB Blaster for that...

WD40 is great for that. I prefer to start with car wash or dish soap first, but if that doesnt work WD40 melts it right off safely.
