  • What do you think of this custom cat-back on eBay?

I am looking to slightly upgrade my stock cat back exhaust for a Cool sound. I have an 84 firebird with the 2bbl 2.8 V6 auto. This guy makes and sells a system on eBay. No muffler??? This is from the description:

THIS IS MADE OF 14 GAGE HEAVY DUTY ALUMINIZED TUBING, THIS ELIMINATES THE MUFFLER FOR MORE FLOW AND A LOUDER SOUND,
THERE IS A CHAMBER IN THE CENTER TO SPLIT THE FLOW, TAIL PIPES & HARDWARE INCLUDED, WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO IS ALL THAT COMES WITH IT, THIS HAS A 2 1/4" INSIDE DIA.FOR THE INLET PIPE , THE TAIL PIPE SECTION IS 3" OUTSIDE DIA.

    Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1982-...spagenameZWDVW

What do you think? Is this system worth a try? It's not too expensive and looks like an easy install. I'm really thinking about giving it a try.

    Thanks Guys!

The 2-1/4" pipe would be awfully small for a V8 car. But will probably be fine for a v6.

Yeah I think it will be fine for my v6, it seems odd that it would go from the 2.25" to the 3" tails? For looks maybe? Of couse that's inside diameter verses outside diameter.

Yeah, the 3" tails are just for looks. I'd say you are fine to run that. Probably gain a little HP, bout 3-5 maybe.

Might actually lose power since there's no backpressure with no muffler left on the car. If you still have your cat it might be OK. The 2.8's a bit of a lost cause. I've blown two of them up in 2 different S trucks.

                      It doesnt need backpressure.

More then you ever wanted to know about BACKPRESSURE:

you need a muffler of some kind unless you like rasp.
ive herd open 3.8's and any thing above 3,000 RPM they are pretty raspy
id imagine a 2.8 would be worse.
if you want it to be louder why not just put a different muffler?
