engine missing runs rough

hey anyone out there know of any problems with late 80's tpi 350's running rough at idle i just bought a 89 firebird. (finally) i bought it with an engine problem it runs rough (bad) at idle it somewhat clears up around 2500 rpm. Do these things burn valves or blow head gaskets It's going to need more than plugs and wires any ideas or common problems

the ses light is on I don't have a obd 1 scan tool yet my buddy at work has a solus i'll have to check it out

you dont need a scan tool. connect a and b on the aldl port with a paper clip. the light will flash. 12 means all clear. all fo the codes are two digits.

flash-pause-flash-flash is 12. it repeats them 3 times.

Mine plays "12" 3 time even if there is codes.

Don't you guys have Murrays or Autozone on your side of the state? They scan for free.

The Southfield Murrays gives you a ruff time about using their scanner now, they had 3 of them stolen in less than a month.

Just an FYI for anyone on that side of town.

Yeah we have Advance and Autozone but you don't need a scanner for OBD I. Just need the code list and a paper clip.

Wow, usually they come out and do it at autozone or advance. I've never been to murray's. Seems really stupid that they would let you take it, of course people are going to take them. That'd be like a guy off the street that I don't know asking to borrow money and I give him my debit card and expect to see him again. Stupid. Ok, sorry, lol

They hold on to your driver's license, but people were still scaming them, guess the lines at the SOS don't bother them.
