  • True Duals

I am looking to have TDs installed on my car when it comes out this spring. I want to do either under or over the axle depending on what pricing I can find. If anyone can recommend someone/a shop in the greater detroit or Lansing area to run these for me please let me know! Also, if you have an idea for the price for under/over with say 3" piping please feel free to post it up! I look forward to hearing some responses hopefully.

I was researching true duals for an ls1...when it is dumped at the axel its goin to be a lot cheaper then goin out the back...a lot of people talk about the texas speed true duals...sorry dont know many places to install around here...personally i would dump at the axels, clamp the part on then go somewhere just to have them weld them on.

TD's might not be the best way to go, if you ever end up gettin a cam the engine's "balance" of exhaust flow works better with a good Y-Pipe. Flow isn't everything and there really isn't that much of a difference between a Y-pipe and a X-pipe anyway. On the otherhand TD's always sound good

yeah your going to have a hard time finding a place to put on some true duals because of space unless you do decide to dump before the axle, some people run it underneath the axle instead of over it, i would be skeptical about doing that though, i'd go with the y pipe into 3"

wish you were farther northwest. When at home I'm in the Fenton area but up here at school I have a buddy from Grand Rapids that had TDs put on his '95 TA. Sounds SWEET!!! mandrel bent 3" pipe from the headers back. LT headers w/ no cats

I would think 3" true duals would be a bit large since most of our modifed exhaust are running A y-pipe into a single 3". I mean if you running two pipes couldnt you run a smaller diameter? wouldnt two 2" pipes be equal to a single 4"?

i had true duels out the back custom bent, took awhile to do and to tell the truth they always hit the rear end and the nock sensor can pick this up and cause it to nock timing out 15 degrees. it can be dumped at the rear axle with out the pain of nocking around but then you kick dust up on everything. i have the lt1 basic same body design and there is not much room. i had 2 1/4 inch just to fit them through the back but like i say they hit under the car and dont sound good when you get in clunk clunk.
i had mine for 3 years and now going back to single over but running duels to a cross point with a magnaflow y pipe to the 3 inch over.

I just remembered, theres a guy at my moms work that has a firebird with true duals. I asked him about it and he said he bought his pipe from a company called spintech. Apairently they make a type of oval exhaust pipe that helps take care of some of the clearance issues. The only tricky part is that last time I checked they didnt make a camaro kit, so you would have to buy a bunch of straight pipe and j-bends then have somebody fab it up for you. could get kinda pricey.

Ok, well good stuff so far. As for piping diameter, I am thinking between 2.5 and 3", probably 2.5 is better suited and plenty if I do go forward with it. I am just looking into the td's for the sound primarily. I may do a cam or more down the road, but the lt and new exhuast will be it for at least this season I am sure. I guess I have intentions that are not so easy to set up unfortunately, I just think that some lts through either powerstick chambered muflers or some flowmaster 1 chambers would sound (based on clips) so beautiful. I have a catback now, I just think I want rougher and louder. Either way, I definately will not be doing dumps. I know they are easy and not to pricey, but I want a fully finished look with tips for sure. Thanks for the inisght so far guys. Glad I found this board last everning!

This is probably a dumb question but you do have longtube headers right? If not then that will be exactly what you wanna do if you want more sound, you cannot do TDs on stock manifolds it will sound ghey.

^ Still do able jeff, W/O headers But like you said kinda pointless

I went to Camarofest about 5 years ago and they was a Grey Lowered 3rd gen there who had true duels i asked him who did it and he wouldn't tell me (that bastard) He said the guy told him not to tell. but that thing sounded awsome.

I know it is possable i know it is do able but who does it. Also there really isn't much of a need for 2 3inch pipes 2 1/4 is plenty with a h-pipe or x-pipe.

1995 TA Sold. i sure do miss it though.

you might wanna stick with 2.5 3' may be too much as everyone of us knows it's a pain trying to put td's on our cars there's not much room and youl be paying out your ass. like IcePick said you hear a noise under the car and it's rather dissapointing. it's all up to you just thought i would help out alittle.

Hmmmm decisions decisions. Well, I have thelong tubes waiting to be put on (hopefully sooner than later). Do you think that going from manifolds and cats to LTs and an ORY would wake up the rest of my current cat-back system noticeably? I just dont wanna spend the money on a ORY only to move onto a TD setup because its not loud enough, you know?

if your going to do it put the long tube in at the same time dont do this part than turn around and pay more to shorten them up and the redo part of the exhaust unless you have money to throw away ill be there to catch it.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
