  • What kind of gain can i expect?

Howdy everyone, just curious...on my stock lt1 with CAI and exhaust, what if any kind of gain in HP could i expect to see if i have my heads and TBI ported and polished? Also, not surethis makes a difference or not but me and my dad pulled my oil pan off to verify what block it was and it does have 4 bolt main...I assume that my 95 lt1 is an actual Corvette engine or am i just dreaming?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

You might have gotten one of the lucky factory 4-bolts! The plants were known to substitute corvette blocks when the f-body/b-body supply ran short. Check to see if your engine is numbers matching:

Also, i dont think id bother doing any port work unless you are changing valvetrain or displacement. I'm currently putting 370 to the wheels (~440 crank) using stock unported heads/intake. Theyre not as bad of a casting as people make them out to be. The stock intake is actually extremely efficient.

10-4 Buddy, i will check all the numbers and see if they match. Also, can you tell me what mods you are running to get 370 to the wheels? If in fact i did get one of the factory 4 bolts, will that increase the value of my car at all?
      Thanks,
      Stephen

        Not really.

Maybe in 15 years but as of now, no.

You also don't have TBI. TBI is Throttle Body Injection. You have MPFI. Multi-port Fuel Injection.

So I am assuming what you mean is getting you're throttle body ported.

I agree with Nate, its not really worth anything yet but in the future who knows. If theres no vin stamping on the block that could mean the engine was just replaced (i dont know if factory 4 bolts were stamped or not but i assume they were... Havent found anyone to confirm it yet.)

As for my car i used a good middle of the road advanced induction cam (226/234) and uppef the compression to 11.6:1 then i just let it breathe with headers, 3" duals, LS1 lid conversion and electric water pump. Also my valve bowls were polished up, but that doesnt really qaulify as porting since runner volume is still factory.

if I were you I would just do some basic bolt ons like an exhaust, some longtubes, converter, and gears... don't go jumping into rebuilding the engine and wanting to make a lot of power because it will require a lot of time, and money to do properly and be reliable and a lot of times people get way over there head rebuilding the whole car and end up parting it out. you will be happy changing out small things and seeing the gains in performance instead of doing a h/c/I and not having the drivetrain, gears, converter, and other things to support want it wants. What are your overall plans with the car?

Yes, you are correct lol....my bad, it is MPFI.....

where can i read up on adding a LS lid?

when you say converter, im assuming your meaning torque converter as in a stall? how difficult is this mod to do? also, my gears have been changed but im not sure what to. i have the disc brakes on the rear and also the traction control but i have no switch for it inside. can u recommend a decent stall converter?

Thanks to all you guys, i really appreciate it.
                Thanks,
                Stephen

Just curious guys, would i benefit from any type of shift kit? i was looking at the B&M electric kits but im not sure of the quality etc. i would rather remove the valve assembly and do the proper shift kit. is there any difference? also, can anyone recommend an affordable stall?
                  Thanks,
                  Stephen

lid conversion is a pain in the ass and requires a lot of cutting to fit under a stock hood. I have a writeup if you want it but id recommend instead to just get a cowl hood. One of those will just about clear the configuration as it bolts on... Some minor trimming and youre good to go.

Basically all it is using an LS1 radiator support which is also an airbox, on an LT1 car. Or with a stock hood you dont use the airbox, but rather just the lid piece. The whole point is to eliminate the 90 degree elbow which is a proven choke point. It can also function as a bottom feeding ram air setup depending on how you configure it.

Thanks again Joelious, im gonna look for just a lid then......

Again, its a lot of work and butchering. I dont recommend it unless you absolutely do not want to change your hood or sell the car in the future.

                        Here's how its done:

You still need the radiator support to hold up the radiator, you just eliminate the air box portion. I have pretty much everything you need to do this, shoot me a PM if you're interested, willing to part with it for a good price.

Or get fancy like my plans for the winter.

A shift kit basically just bumps up the line pressure which in turn gives you a harder faster shift. Tuning is where you change the RPM where it shifts, in electronic controlled transmissions.

The stall depends on what you plan on doing.

Since you have a 94 a few of us on here can tune 94/95 Joel and myself included.

A real shift kit like a trans go HD2 would be the route to go. As far as a converter goes I love my Yank SS3600.
