Headers , wrapped or naked?

My Long tubes should be here on monday. So now the question remains, should I wrap them or not? I would like the extra protection from the heat burning my wires. Is it worth it? does it last? How much is this going to cost? Hows it done etc ,etc, etc.....

I think you said the were stainless? The question is, are they 304 stainless? Stainless doesn't always mean it will not rust and wraps can actually make them rust out sooner.

I believe it's about $100 for nice wrap to do a set of long tubes. Fiberglass sleeves might be a cheaper option for you.

If stainless don't wrap...if not have them ceramic coated. Plenty of guys run headers with burning up wires. Cheaper to heat sleeve your wires if you're concerned.

where do you get the heat sleeves for the wires? that does sound better than wrapping them.

yeah they are stainless, I just emailed him the question so we'll see if he even answers me. I hope they wont rust, thats the whole reason I went stainless.

My BBK headers have some spots of rust, less than 150 miles on them. Most likely surface impurities that I can get out with steel wool.

Just look up spark plug boot sleeves, should point you in the right direction.

Stainless wrapped pacesetters, I have had no problems with them being wrapped. It's been said you could crack stainless headers if you wrap them, But so far so good. Also if you don't wrap them you should do something for the spark pug wires or you will more then likely burn at least one of them. Just so you know..I can put my hands on the headers without getting even close to being burned that's how much cooler the wrap makes them. You could have up to a 40% drop in the engine compartment temp

I used 100ft for my bbk Lt with only a little bit left over

I used 100ft as well and also used dei silicone coating paint to keep the wrap from rotting. I also suggest spraying down any exposed "areas without wrap" so they wont rust. I didn't do this and they have some rust already

I have a set of stainless headers I plan on ceramic coating. Currently i have steel ceramic coated headers that have been on the car since 2005... barely any rust on them but its a fair weather car. I personally would want a stainless header either coated or wrapped cause they put off a lot of heat. But i know of daily drivers that get away without it, so not a dire requirement.

Any 400 series stainless steel will rust it has carbon in it

I wrapped my ebay stainless - they were already beat up. I did it so I could pull the plugs after a WOT pass at the track.

Performance gains are so small it's probably not even measurable.

Im leaning towards not wrapping them just from a cost perspective. It'll be cheaper for me to wrap the wiring and plug wires. If it turns out to be to hot under the hood I can always wrap the m later, for now I think that is going to be my plan.

Although I have been considering wrapping them. They aren't perfect looking after almost a decade, and I'd be all for lowering under hood temps.
