ok, I had a bit of time to look things over today. The heads got washed and scrubbed down today. So I started to get ready for the port match operation . Just out of curiosity I decided to give things a fresh look.
I took a strip of fairly heavy paper and placed it behind the intake gasket, then I placed that on the head. Next with a sharp razor blade I cut out the openings of the ports in the paper. Then I took the paper and the gasket over to the intake manifold and matched them up. There was hardly any difference in the openings. So, I really cant see any need to do any "port matching" at least on this motor. I did clean up some casting flash and irregularities in the intake side of the heads, nothing earth shattering.
I did think about smoothing out the combustion chamber in the heads, they are pretty rough. But I figured I would leave well enough alone for now.
