  • Which header gasket do you prefer?

For the LT1/SBC guys out there... what do you like?

Need to seal up what seems to be a header leak and just wondering what has worked well for everyone. Should I stick with the ol' Felpro 1406 or is there something better in your experience? Seems like everything likes to leak a little around the two center ports.

My 1406s have been on my car since 2005 and the headers have been off several times since then. Never had any leaks.

Wow, you were able to reuse them? Every time I've taken a set off they were in no condition to reuse. Which headers do you have?

pacesetters and I also have breslin (percy) locking bolts which i believe have played a major role in their longevity.

I use nothing but the solid copper ones. I've probably had them on and off at least 20 times and they still seal up nice.

I have the dead soft aluminum ones, no complaints here. They have been on and off three or four times so far.

I have used the Felpros on my LS1 and the LT1 I used the ones they came with (no idea on brand)

                  No issues either way.

This is one of those things that in my opinion you cant wrong either way. 90% of the issues you hear of with either type of gasket are more than likely user error.

I had cheap ebay gaskets the first time and now I have Fel Pro.

One thing I didnt like about the Fel Pro is that the bolt holes for the end bolts are not pre cut. They give you the little part to hang the gasket on the head which was helpful but I had to drill the gasket for the outer bolts.

Huh, me either. Only mod I've ever had to do to a Felpro 1406 is trimming to match the exhaust port on one particular set of heads.
