My current plan for the car is that I am going to keep the stock manifolds, upgrade to a better "Y" and high flow cats, and upgrade the catback (plan always subject to change though!).
I'm a little lost as to what my options are on the cats and the "Y". What is out there that would bolt up to the stock manifolds and a 3" catback, like a magnaflow? Do these "Y's" usually include high flow cats if they aren't "ORY's" or is that a totally separate piece? What are the tubing sizes on these things? It seems most catback are 3" - are the Y's 2" or 2.5" then?
What's the most restrictive part of the stock exhaust system? Manifolds, intermediate cat-pipes, stock Y (that wierd driver's side oval pipe?), or stock catback?
Additionally - am I severely limiting myself by keeping the stock manifolds? I am shying away from LT's as it just seems they can cause clearance problems, body/frame interference.
I'd appreciate any advice/insight if I am missing something with what I am planning. Just as background - being that the car is a vert, I am really just looking to have a reliable, headache-free street car/cruiser. No interest in squeezing an extra 2hp out for a better dyno printout, no interest in running it at the track.
Lastly, just curious - what kind of power increase could I expect from running a bone stock engine and upgrading everything behind the manifolds?
