  • Help me build my next exhaust

Ok so currently I have BBk shorties, 3" ORY, QTP E cutout, 3" I, then SLP 2OTL mufler with tips (silencer removed). It sounds good but is too tame for me, then the cutout is just ridiculously loud. I plan on changing up the system this winter and selling all of my old system. I am going long tubes, Here are my options i have thought about in order, based on all of the video's I have watched on youtube.

    1. 3" TD w/X pipe , Moroso Spiral Flows dumped at axle (rumors being restrictive?)
    2. TD w/X , Flowmaster Single Chambers dumped
    3. TD w/x, 2.5" duals w/GMMG mufflers into 2OTL tips (more $$)
    4. TD w/X, Magnaflow bullets dumped
    5. TD w/X, Dynomax bullets dumped

I want it to be pretty loud while sounding good and having a mean, aggressive, like its gonna kick your ass sound. I drive the car like every 2 weeks so the loudness isnt going to bother me, its just a weekend toy.

    Thoughts, Suggestions, Criticism?

Spiral flows are restrictive - but when used in duals they work ok and are going to be the quietest (not saying much)
    Single chambers like h-pipes
I'm not a fan of chambered mufflers like the gmmg's, powersticks or sweet thunders - personal taste.
dynomax bullets are loud......magnaflow bullets are more tame and have some tone to them.

Have you thought of magnaflow 4x9x14" mufflers - they fit in a TD install and aren't as harsh as bullets. Lots of people on tech like them.

I am leaning towards the Magnaflow Bullets, I am affraid with the 4x9 Mags that it wont be loud enough at idle for my preference. Ive been driving around with my cutout half way open just for the sound. I really like the sound of the Moroso's but idk if i can do those if they are gonna give me too much restriction.

Also one thing that turns me away from magnaflow is that they seem to soften the cam lope at idle, i want it to sound very choppy.

It's going to be much louder with long tubes.....spiral flows do sound nasty. I have a 3" painted one with a 12" extension and a turn down on it if you are interested. 2 of them will flow well enough. It's not like you have a max effort 500rwhp build.

I may just have to take that off your hands, but we'll see.

While it they will sound much better LT's and duals are going to be just as loud or louder than shorties with the cutout open.

My vote is for the GMMG 20TL, but I always want to stray away from the crowd and do something different with my car

really, I thought they would be just a little bit louder. So maybe I am gonna shy away from bullets haha.

yeah I like this idea alot, but it is gonna cost more, I am hoping to be able to sell my old system to pay for the new. Also I'm not that much of a fan of exhaust tips on camaro's, CME looks awesome and i also like my 2OTL.

Anyone have any experience with flowmaster 40's on a cammed LT1? My buddy has some on his H/C/I LS2 GTO and it sounds AMAZING!!!

It really depends on the exhaust note that you are going for. TDs with flowmaster 40s will give it that old school muscle sounds, lots of bass. Joels car has this exact setup (knockoff mufflers but they are the same) and you can almost feel the car idling because it produces so much bass. Sets car alarms off everywhere.

On the other hand if you like more of the Corvette/ almost exotic exhaust note, chambered mufflers are where its at. Here is a good video of a cammed LT1 with GMMG

That one is a little raspy because it doesn't have any cats on it, mine is a little more tame with cats on it

loundness mostly comes from engine compression. if you have a stock compression motor then im going to lean twards the dynomax bullits. there loudest you can go with a factory compression motor.

think about this a turbo car is pretty quiet. not just becouse the turbo's act as a small muffler but becouse the compression is low. now think of a 12.5:1 - 14.5:1 compression motor they will shake the ground. all that compressed are makes one hell of a bang. just my thaughts.

Here's what I have. It sounds great but I think it may be too loud once I get the headers on.

I'll try to get a vid up tomorrow.

I had true duals with flowmasters last year, I didnt like it. It had that nasty dumped flowmaster tone.

Now I have a X pipe with Bullets. Sounds good to me.

Is it Kooks or SW that has an F-Body true dual setup that exits in the stock location? That'd be a fun exhaust to do an x-pipe vs h-pipe comparison for sound/horsepower.
