  • Thermal Barrier for Headers

I'm putting stainless longtube headers on my second gen. What I'm wondering is if there is some kind of internal coating that may help with discoloration. I know motorcycles have this stuff called "Blue Blocker" that you coat the inside of the pipe with, but I was wondering if there may be something for an automotive application. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm planning on double-plying the floors and I also have that POR-15 header paint that I will be painting the underside with (not that it will do alot, but anything may help). This car may be just for race only, depending whether or not I can insure and tag it in the spring. Been a few years.

Gotcha, maybe wrap the headers where they go by the floor board area?

Not a bad idea. After all, it'll be far enough away from the hottest part of the headers.

            So POR-20?

I agree, wrapping them might be the best approach...

That's the one, just not too many know of it, so I usually call it "the por-15 version". Stuff is AWESOME as a coating to body parts, but yeah, throwing the 20 on the floorboards around the exhaust.

Yup, I just coated my header with that stuff, and Jeff did his headers with it.

I have like 3/4 of an 8oz can left...so I don't really know what to do with it, haha...maybe I'll do that sometime in the near future!

I used it on my current headers and it bled through after about 2 hrs. May be the way it runs, but I'm taking no chances
