  • Checkin out Ls1 cams.

Well, I think I am gonna cam my T/A over the winter. I won't be doing heads, possibly gonna spray eventually. I have been doing reading and stuff, just want to know your guys' experience with any particular cams, do you like them?
It's hard to go by stats since they are like apples and oranges.

Any to stay away from or to consider? '

Criteria (I might be able to break a few of these but they are general):
    -Fairly Aggressive
-Good power gain w/o revving sky high
-Must Lope pretty good at idle
-It can be a bit harder to drive, won't bother me.
-Run on stock tuning (don't want to dyno tune till after nos)
    -Nitrous Friendly
-Gotta stay close to stock fuel consumption wise

    Check out my FQuick!

the must run on stock tune will kill you. Most will relearn with LTRM's so fueliing at part throttle will be somewhat ok but WOT will be way off and cause big problems without tuning.
I loved my tr224 112. It ran on stock tune but not well. Didn't have a rough idle, though you new it had a cam.
aggresive idle, no tuning and no increase fuel consumption will not go together.

I would go with a mild tr224 or tr230 if I were you

Well like Larry mentioned you really can't have any mildly agressive cam and not tune it and you'll need something larger than a TR224 to lope real good unless you can find a way to drop idle to 750 with your exhaust it should be more noticable as well. Either way you'll install it and knowing that its not tuned and at its full potential will kill you. Also remember swapping a cam isn't as easy as it sounds, you'll need the cam, new springs, pushrods (recommended), might as well get an LS2 timing set, all the gaskets and stupid little things really add up.

I'm with 1BADAIR on this one. If you're an A4 you're gonna want a stall w/ any cam and those two things together with hurt fuel consumption. Also tunning will be a must w/ any cam that lopes as hard as you'd like. You've put some unrealistic things that you want out of the cam. I had a 224/228 cam and loved it, especially on the gas. I now have a 231/237 and since it's hasn't been tunned yet it runs like shit. I would suggest you find a cam that you like without considering the n2o since 99% of the time you'll be NA. Just my .02, Mike.

Swapping the cam is easy. It's the springs that are a ***** IMO.

Yeah Ik what is involved in the install. By running on stock tune i meant it has to be driveable. I realize an aggressive cam will need tuning either way to fix driveability and squeeze out the power. Its an m6 btw. I realize it will most likely cost 800-1000 for parts and ill do the install myself.

Well the thing is driving untuned can be very dangerous, you never know how lean or rich your running and the car will do some weird things. Being your a stick you will have better drivability on an untuned cam but part throttle will probably bog and or feel slow and WOT could do many things to harm the engine its just not wise to do for very long IMO.

Stock Gen-III cams generally have between 200 degrees and 210 degrees of intake lobe duration at .050-inch lift valve lift depending on the app smaller performance camshats around 210 degrees. For street and strip cars 220 to 230 works well. Now with your LSA stock is around 119.5.. .LSA in performance cams usually fall between 102 and 116, with 110 and 112 being very good all-around performers in the LS1's....

yeah as far as tuning...any cam you are going to want to get tuned....if you want just a mild little street cam, the TR224 is probably one of the most common and most predictable cams out there. i like mine, but i want more, that's my only problem....my buddy threw the same TR224 112 cam in his TA and i still don't think he has it tuned, and it runs....not the greatest, but it does.....

whenever you get a cam, i'd just suggest talking to sean about tuning it.
