alright guys right now i have true duals and they are a pain really heavy hard to bolt up the collectors... its just headman shortys then 2 long pipes twisting and winding all the way back alot of weight sounds and performs good but i want to ditch the weight and try to upgrade the headers so im looking at headman long tubes and purple hornies... this will put the exhaust just about at the tail of the transmission probably dump it right down or to the sides im sure it will be louder but do you think too loud? purple hornies are basically a 3 foot glass pack that bolt right onto the collectors... i will add a resonator tip to them to give it a little more rumble and quiet it down but not sure if it will still be too much... anyone run something like this? i never got to hear justins car i know it would sound close to the same minus a few feet of pipe

well this is how the exhaust is ran now... im thinking just by doing this i could shave off 75-100lbs worth of pipe and mufflerAttached FilesOriginally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. I'd keep what you have on the car.....just my opinion, but purple hornies??
Come on, us 3rd gen'ers have a hard enough time not looking like rednecks
......Anyways, spend some time underneath your car and you will see why this set-up probably will not work without the use of some s-pipes between the headers and glasspacks.

It'll be pretty loud but it won't kill you.
The biggest problem will be fumes. Every time you stop, fumes will POUR into your car. Doesn't sound like a huge deal, but it really is.
I had a small exhaust leak where your exhaust will be dumping. Just a pinhole made it so I couldn't stop with the car running, gave me headaches, made me throw up. It's one reason why the car is still parked.
At least dump it behind the driver with turnouts. It'll be just as loud and not give you cancer.

I agree with James, the setup you are talking about sounds awfully redneck to me. Not to mention you will have ZERO ground clearance with that setup.Originally posted by WMCCjamesI'd keep what you have on the car.....just my opinion, but purple hornies??

i intended to heat up the glass packs bend them and get them as close to the body as possibal... right now i really dont have alot of ground clearance but i want to keep the true duals.. even if i put them on then run them out just before the rear tires or something, i already checked the sizes it will fit but sit lower then my current setup unless i turn it up a bit... i just dont like the current setup too many hangers to many bends and way to much pipe... i could run 3 stock systems with how much pipe is under it now, or recycle it and make a geo metro...
what other setups of true duals have people tryed?
i talked to a vette guy a while back that makes side pipes for stingrays and such id like to try something like that if it didnt become a huge groud clearance issue... i was thinking of tossing it trough the fender vent then follow down the ground effects but thats alot of custom work i dont think i could bend a set like that myselfLast edited by wezeles; July 26th, 2006, 08:45 AM.Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. Ok now that's funny.....
I have ran long tubes and purple hornies on my 1980 camaro when it was still together (7 years ago, lol). I left them on for a grand total of 3 days, and it was to much. I still have them, 3" diameter header muffler. They were ungodly loud, might as well have been open tubes. It was insane, I could barely think, you couldn't talk in the car at all if you wanted to. Someday when I put that car back together because of how much of a pain a full length system is I plan to run a true dual system that comes out between the back of the doors and just in front of the wheelwell on the sides, but I'll be using a much better and quieter muffler.
So I would recommend against running these. Maybe with a little pipe and a better muffler but not purple hornies IMO.

ya i was pretty sure they would be loud.. thats why i was going to do that ressinator tip on it if i do it at all... you would be suprised how much it quiets down the echaust and gives it a nice blurp in its place... but i could always run a few feet of pipe shoot it out before the tires... its not like they are expensive i want the long tubes anyway i might just grab a set of the hornies and try them out if not im sure i can use them on something else.Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. Awwww...... old school headers and glasspacks LOL.
It will be loud!
You will have fumes!
It will sound great!
You will think the car is faster due to the sound but in reality you won't pick up much.
Don't throw away the old setup so you can go back to it if needed.'73 Z28 388 Stroker, M22 Rockcrusher 4 speed

its just the weight of it that gets me... dont get me wrong for a true dual system it was very well thought out but the weight of it alone and the fact that its so heavy the collectors never seem to seal all the way and i drag the pipes on a decent size bump...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice.
