  • which header and y-pipe?

i have a 94 z28 lt1 6 speed completely stock. i want to get a nice set of headers and y-pipe for it. does have some kind of after market cat back. i think 2.5in

i was wondering will i have good ground clearance with long tubes?

do you reccomend keeping the egr and A.i.r. or deleting them?

i found pacesetter LT's and 3in ORY pipe for 450$ new shipped (non coated)

or pacesetter mid length headers with 2.5in ORY pipe for 350$ new shipped (non coated)

both have provisions for egr and a.i.r.

its a DD so whats best for it all around????

    thanks.

No matter what you get, be it long tube, or shortys, I would make sure they are coated. With that being said, I have BBK shorties with the BBK 3 inch Y pipe going into a flowmaster catback with a cutout where the converter used to be. I deleted AIR and EGR, but I never leave michigan as far as registration goes. If you are going to be deployed to another state, you would want to find out weather or not you have to register the car down there. Because if you did you would be held to their emission standards. Where in comparison, michigan has none. Hope this helps, Eric L

I would personally buy stainless steel. They dont need to be coated and they will last forever.

True, but becareful buying the elcheapo ebay stainless headers. Ive heard horror stories about fitment issues with them. Eric L

As for the air and egr, it is really up to you. If you delete them you will need to remove the codes from your computer or you will have a check engine light. I saved a little money by buying headers without the provisions and since you should get tuned anyways after installing headers it made sense to me (it doesnt cost any extra to remove the codes if you are already getting tuned).

Ground clearance varies by manufacturer. I didn't lose any with mine (I have QTP but I dont think they make them for LT1's)

Being military, he has the choice of registering either in the state where he is stationed, or here in Michigan. If he entered active duty listing his home as being in Michigan, then he is considered a permanent resident of Michigan. As long as his "Home of Record" is here, he can keep his car registered here. He still has to comply with local laws where he is stationed, but they can't say anything about his vehicle registration, as long as it's current. The only time this would be any different is if he were stationed overseas and he took the car with him, in which case he would have to have it inspected and registered by the host nation.

yea im good to go with the laws. so is it worth the hassel to remove the egr and a.i.r.? do i need it? how hard is it to remove?

              why coated headers?

so ground clearance isnt differnt with LT to shortys?

coated headers dont rust and lower underhood temps. And you do lose some ground clearance with long tubes over shorties, but its not much. Eric L

Without EGR and AIR, you won't pass emissions, so you won't be able to take the car overseas with you if you PCS someplace outside of the U.S. It's not too hard to remove it, especially if you get a set of block off plates for the ports (I paid like $16 including shipping for the plates). That should help you clean up the engine bay a little bit too. . . Getting that useless crap out of the engine bay frees up some space too.

well im gonna be at camp lejeune for my first enlistment. and you cant ahve a car over sea's unless your a E6 or above.

so i found coated LT pacesetter with 3in ORY pipe for like 550$ shipped. so you reccomend the egr and air delete? how much ground clearance am i gonna lose b/c i wanna lower the car 1.25in in the future. is it better to go mid length? and can i do this in a weekend with all the right tools and basic knowledge and a buddy to help?

what else do i need for the swap?

                    thanks guys.
