  • Simple 6.3rwhp and 7.1 ftlbs for LT1

    Throttle Body Coolant Bypass.

    For those who don't know the LT1 throttle body uses coolant to keep the throttle plates from freezing during the winter. Circulating 180+ degree fluid will warm up the intake air, warm air robs horse power. You can either buy a kit or do what this guy did 3 dollars for parts.

    Here is the dyno for it.

    Here is the 3 dollar solution:

    LS1 as well. But is the gain really THAT much?

      I didn't know a LS1 had it too.

      That's what that dyno is showing.

      Also I was just reading LS1s and LT1s were underrated at the factory
      LT1 = 300hp
      LS1 = 350hp

      They did that for the F-Bodies to make the Corvettes seem stronger horsepower wise. So I've been reading.

        Does the Throttle body bypass help? I'm sure it does to some extent. Will you ever see any NOTICEABLE gain down the 1320? I highly doubt it. Still a good mod to do because its practically free but I wouldn't be expecting to feel any SOTP gains.

            You may notice a little better throttle response and thats about it, I did the mod years back cuz it was free, and thts all i got out of it.

              Maybe if you did the bypass, bumpstop mod, and ported it all at the same time you'd notice a gain, though it would still be a small one. Honestly I didn't notice any difference at all when I did the bypass mod, and it was the very first thing I did to my car before it really had anything done to it.

                i've done it on mine... only difference see...well feel, is the TB being alot cooler to the touch... so i would imagine city driving it would help a bit(heat soak) as far as gas mileage, but i feel no difference in the seat.. Coming off the freeway after a longer drive, the TB is also alot cooler..

                  I agree with Dummybait. It dosent do a lot of good, but it does drop underhood temps. I would do it in conjunction with a 160 thermostat. Eric L

                        I think what hes saying is his set up is like mine. The steam pipes from the back of the heads runs from the drivers side head, to the passenger side head, than along the side of the intake to a port on the radiator. I dont remember where my TB hose came from, but I also changed alot of the hoses on my car since its a 1994 motor in a 1997 chassis. But while we are on the subject, heres another hose you can eliminate while your cleaning things up. The one that runs from the waterpump to the lower driverside of the radiator (5/8 hose) Is only there to provide coolant to the oil cooler. If you eliminate the oil cooler (which I would recomend since its really NOT an oil cooler, rather its an oil heater). I pulled the fitting out of the water pump and tapped the hole and put an AN pipe plug in it. If you run a blower on an LT1 this is by far the best way to do it IMHO. Eric L
