  • xfi 292 on stock heads

anybody know what power range i should be at with stock heads and an xfi 292 cam with upgraded fuel system and headers and built trans with stock stall

what are the specs on the cam, im to lazy to look it up. Duration @ .050, lift, etc. IMHO the heads are the limiting factor on our cars, since the cam, (by standard small block standards) is pretty good. Yeah, people get good numbers with just a cam, but there are MANY heads and cam cars clicking off over 400 to the wheels. Just out of curiosity and to play devils advocate, id be curious to see what numbers an LT1 could put down with a stock cam, 1.6 rockers, and a GOOD set of heads. Eric L

That is the same cam we put in Reds (OldFarts) Stroker with AFR 195's.
        Specs are: 242/248 Dur. @ .050 .584/.579 lift w 113 LSA (specs are using 1.6 rockers)
        RPM range is 2200-6200
Suggested stall is 2500 + with gears and headers.

In my opinion if you are going to stay with stock heads you better get them ported really good!
I think you will choke on the top end with stock heads.

Holly Cow, yeah, if the cams that big, than you should have better heads, or as Kyle said, REALLY well ported stockers. An as cast factory head isnt going to work with that cam. Eric L

Anything in the 240 range is a poor choice for stock heads unless the car is going to be living at the track. You might gain 5-10 hp up but sacrifice alot more down low from a smaller cam. Ive got a 226/234 and I think it is very well matched to stock heads. It pulls hard from 2000 RPM right to the rev limiter, and with a good tune my goal is to hit 380 rwhp.

Another restriction to keep in mind is the stock intake elbow. Switching from a CAI to an LS1 lid gained me a TON of power.

I see you are in macomb. Im over at school still right now but when I move back (im also in macomb) id be willing to give you a ride to give you a better perspective.

if he shifts his car at close to the stock rev limiter, he will be slower in the 1/4 mile

They are milled for more compression and any sharp edges in the castings were cleaned/smoothed.
