  • Holley Pro-jection system on stock 305 H.O. anybody else try this???

Hi everybody I bought my Trans AM with a Holley 2D Pro-jection system already installed, it works pretty slick. basically its a retro-fit TBI system, its completely stand-alone.

The Pro's: Instant throttle response, easy to adjust, Faster starting in cold weather

The Con's: Expensive Retro-fit(I got it for free! because it was already on the car), more wiring and crap, also the problem i've been having is stock engine computer is freaking out because it has no sensors left to give it information.

I have added the Holley pro-jection intake manifold, dynomax blackjack headers, new exaust, new timing chain, and some other random parts. I got a wiring schematic and cut back and eliminated all the no-longer used wires and stuff so it looks clean and it runs......but.....I am having one of 3 problems:
Either the engine has more air/fuel requirements than what the Holley Pro-jection system can supply
( I looked it up, theoretically it can supply enough air to bring my engine up to 6000 RPM)
(and I bumped the fuel pressure up some as an attempt to help, I really need a A/F meter before i mess with it though.)

Or else I'm thinking that the stock computer is having a heart-attack from everything going outta range, and the lack of some sensors. The bad thing about that is its Electronically controlled timing, if that is the issue I think I should switch over to a vacuum advance Distributor to resolve that issue.

These pictures where taken back in July Right now the car is all back together, but I wanna strip the engine bay and redo everything again, over the winter.

    ????any-other thoughts????

Sound like your in the right direction, I think that kit is onlt good for 275 HP. So if the engine is modified.... I doubt its running at its potential.

The good news is Holley is still around so you can call and pick their brain as well.

Yeah, you need to ditch the stock ECM. You have a stand alone system so all you need to do is swap out your ECM controlled dist. for a vacuum referenced one and you should be all set.

        Awesome

Thanks for the reply, I've done my homework, I have a book about carburetor/fuel injection systems

        http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1557880522

also I have like 10 other books about engines, and the manual for the 2D Projection system. I know they "say" 275hp limit, but that's with stock 80pph injectors and the fuel pressure set at 13psi. they have a lot more potential with the right mods.

they make 2 ad-dons for the system: Oxygen sensor upgrade, and Delphi injector upgrade. also people have been known to port them out to improve flow characteristics.

also it states in my manuals that the real limit is 320~hp depending on setup which for a 305 that's fairly easy. my only goal is to exceed 300HP on the stock 305 anything more than that isn't needed. for what i use it for.

I have herd when you start to change the stock setup the old computers don't work like they should and are best to be bypassed. that will probably be my spring project before I throw the car back on the road.
