So the previous owner of my 91 Firebird was in the middle of switching over the non-functional cowl and pulled out the insulation and plate that blocks the intake in the hood. (Either that or he put a T/A hood on there, the hood is from a different car, I'm not sure.)
Anyway, I would like to finish the job. I know that if I could find a CAI system from an 82-84 T/A it could bolt right on.
I'm wondering what I'd need to be aware of if I fabricated something myself? Is it essentially as simple as routing a cold air tube up to the vent in the cowl? I know that the system on the Trans Am had a vacuum solenoid to control the opening of the scoop which obviously I'd be missing. I'm not sure how much of a problem that would be provided I angle the scoop that I will fabricate such that water can't just run right down to the air filter, what do you think?
I'm asking because I'm a rank beginner and don't want to overlook something important and wreck my engine or some such
