  • lifter recomendations..

Ive already picked up my cam, springs, locks and retainters...all from lunati..now time for my lifters.. im looking for a good set that can take about 6500...maybe a little more..

lunati recomended part# Lunati 72430 (a hyd roller lifter, which is what i want to run) when i picked up their cam.. but theyre a retrofit kit and i was trying to stay away from that link bar for rpm reasons and added weight.. which that bar effects both..right? that and they said theyre good for 'about' 6000... cams range is up to 6500 so i was hoping to keep the rest of the valvetrain near there..

any suggestions on lifters anyone??? thanks!

Check with the LS7 lifters... if they're good enough for LS7s they are good enough for me... I'm running them in mine.

they will just drop into an lt1? i could only find the guides and stuff and it looks nothing near what the lt1 set up does.. secondly...where do i buy them at? having issues finding them on summit and elswhere..

Yes, lifters are the only part that is actually compatible between LT1/4 and LSx. Part # 12499225 through Summit or GMPartsDirect.com - $122 + S&H on summit.

I would definitely go with the LS7 lifters. I am running them in my LS3. Like Brian said they are relatively inexpensive and they should take just about anything a street car can throw at them.

those seem like great lifters...thanks for the idea..ill deff bookmark those.. this is what im worried about though... first pic is the same basic lifter..(same design as ls7 one)...the second pic is the design lunati recomends.. difference is the lack of metal near the roller, so the higher lift cam lobes dont hit the side of the lifter on its way up.. ive got one of the meaner voodoo cams they have that can be stuffed into that block so im worried about the cam hitting the lifter walls.. so i think im going to need the high cut design... should i buy a high cut design (more $$) or am i just being a little bit of a worry wort?

I'm not even sure that is possible, at least I have never heard of that happening. The height difference in those two lifters is very minimal where it would matter anyways.

What I'm more worried about is I don't see an oil passage hole in the lunati lifters.

look real close at the lifter on the right... mainly the left side of it.. theres holes for oil in them... lunati has assured they are good for all small blocks with an .842 lifter bore lunati also stated that issue of the cam lobe possible striking/grinding on the lifter wall as it pushes up on the lifter...crane cams as well states the same thing... i can kinda see it happening so i think id rather just buy the higher cut ones and be safe.. but i still need ones that are good for about 6500..

and also, ive already blown up stock lt1 lifters before...they just wont take the rpm im looking for..once they hit 6k theyre ready to blow just about...that the rest of the motor is set up for..6000-6500.. thats the last weak link in my motor...just the lifters..

The LS7 lifters should take the high rpm's just fine, both cars I've had that had them in both saw over 6K pretty much everyday.

As for hitting the lobes here are the three cams that I have run with them and have had no problems.
*LG Motorsports G5X4 - Unknown specs but around 242/242
                          *Custom cam by PatrickG - 230/236 .612”/.607” 110LSA +1 advance, Comp Cams XFI/XFI lobes
                          *Vengeance Racing Stage III LS3/L92 Cam - 231/243 .617/.624 115+3

And from what I just quickly looked up the voodoo cams all have lower lifts the cams I listed.

yeah your cams are a little more wild than the voodoo i have.. (stats are in my sig..)

I deff like the idea of the ls7 lifters then, i was just worried about that rumor a little bit.. I think im going to go with comp cam pro magnum hyd lifters...they bleed a little faster so idle will be a tad smoother with that new cam in, theyre only about $40 more for the set..but ill probably stock up some ls7 lifters as well just to give them a try.. thanks for the help!
