  • what air lid for 01 firehawk

just wondering what air lid I should get for my new 2001 firehawk. I was thinking about getting the slp because of the slp firehawk deal and they are relativly cheap. Someone on ls1tech suggested I get a ftp 90mm so when i decide to upgrade the tb and intake Im ready to go. But I think that one requires the bigger maf now and Im not ready to do that.

Any suggestions? Also what filter should I use?

I would go with the 98mm FTP Air LID. There is an $8 adapter gasket that allows you to use the stock sized MAF until you are ready to step up to a bigger setup. It will add some nice power and will leave you room to grow when you go bigger. All-in-all it isn't going to hurt you.

As for the filter I have always used a K&N filter and if you clean it when you are supposed to it will last a long time!

What about the ram air kits they sell that bring the cold air up from underneath? Are they worth the money?

          x2 on that.
SLP lid is a classy lid.
          Paper filter from Fram.
Had a K&N originally, but the original owner oiled the heck out of it, I kept it, I'll eventually clean it with gas or whatnot, but I've had a paper filter in there since the day I bought it.

The Ram Air or CAI kits will defeat the purpose of the hood (not that the hoods do much anyway).
I did the FRA (Free Ram Air) mod years ago and did notice an increase in power. Biggest drawback to these are that the filter will get dirty and need to be replaced or cleaned (in the case of the K&N's) sooner.

I run the SLP lid with K&N filter and i havent had any problems with it. Looks good under the hood with the SLP logo looking you right in the face. If you do go the SLP lid route...when you are mating the new lid to the MAF, use a blowdryer to heat up the end of the lid. My gf was reading me the directions as i was putting it on and had a hell of a time getting it on...then once its on and my biceps/forearms are killing me, she reads where it says to heat it up!!

I would have just bought a used ftp, slp or whisper lid. I think I've gone through three ls1 lids and I never paid more than 60 bucks for each of them. (Nothing was wrong with any of them I just wanted a change lol) I have a K and N filter in my car as well, I just kept it from the old v6. I also have the SSRA (super sucker ram air) scoop in the front of my car and I can say it does feel a bit snappier at highway speeds than it did with the stock ram air setup. I'm not sure if firehawks are similiar to the ws6 with the air inlet, but I know with the stock baffles there isn't much ram air happening at all. Firehawks don't even have the larger opening in the front do they?

I bought the JAAM kit for mine, you remove the hood baffles and seal the nostrils to your airbox.. At speed you can def feel a difference..

I like that setup a lot, don't think its made for the firehawk though, especially if he doesnt have the raised ws6 lower air box.

I've never seen a firehawk in person, so not sure myself on the lower airbox..

WS6's are the ONLY cars that get the raised Airbox.
