  • air lid/ box ????

im doing a conversion from my 94 to the newer style.. and want to know if the ls1 air box will bolt right up or is there any modification that need to be done..
i want to switch from the side air set up on the older stlye to the new straight type.. and look at a cold air set up ?? i see slp has one.. ?? anyone know if its any good or anyothers i should look at..
not sure on the hood im going t ouse yet.. im thinking a fiberglass one on ebay that a guy sells like the firehawk with the heat extractors but they are blocked like the ram air part.. they offer to open them.. but worried about water getting in the air intake part on that .. anyone got any tips///

For the swap you will need the lower air box part that bolts down right above the radiator as well as a bigger filter and an air lid. For the cold air kit, look into the fast toys ram air kit or super sucker ram air kit these kits are costly but worth it IMO. (I have the super sucker ram air kit and I love it) As far as I'm concerned don't waste your time with the slp kit, their prices are crazy and the "cold air induction" scoop isn't even close to catching any air under there. The fast toys and super sucker kits have a nice scoop in the bottom that directs the air straight up. When looking to purchase mine I asked several people who had them if water coming up there was an issue and nobody had any problems even in a pretty good rain. So unless you plan on driving in lakes I wouldnt worry about it. Even then you can just put a blockoff plate on when its rainy if you are really worried.. Just go on ls1tech and find a used one of those kits, search SSRA or FTRA for better results, and you can get one for around 100-125 bucks. As for a lid don't waste your time buying a stock one, just buy an slp, whisper lid, mti lid, etc.. used off a website as well, you can find those used anywhere from 50-100 bucks. Then to finish it off just get k and n filter. Now that you are adjusting the setup you will also need something to go from the MAF sensor to the throttle body. The MAF will hook right into your aftermarket lid but you will have to buy the stock accordian duct piece or get an SLP smooth bellow. I'd find the stock accordian type because I've never felt the SLP smooth bellow did anything. Hope this all makes sense to you!!

last I heard, the lid setups don't work on the lt1 style cars, hood hits the lid. Maybe the aftermarket hood will give you the clearance you need though.

when he said conversion I thought he meant front bumper/hood conversion as well. But yea if your leaving the lt1 front end on then I really don't know if it will work at all.. hmm

I would just buy a factory ws6 hood off of a wrecked in the rear trans am ws6. Its going to be hands down the best looking and best fitting thing you will ever find. When you buy one of the cheap ebay or pin on hoods you never know how much you might have to invest just to get it to fit right, even then it won't look exactly like a factory hood. The factory hoods have baffles right behind the ram air nostrils so there is nothing to worry about with water on those. (not much performance gains either). I forgot to mention but the WS6 lower air setup has a bigger front opening than a normal TA. This big opening is supposed to allow the air in from the hood. With how big the baffles are I doubt any good amount of air even gets in that way. Hence why I bought the SSRA kit.

EDIT: another option for a good looking hood that comes with a nice ram air setup is the suncoast creations raptor hood. The hood is functional ram air and you can buy a front air filter setup that is made to mate right to the hood. I've never seen one of these setups up close but it looks to be a pretty good setup.

someone on tech did a test of air flow by the nostrils and another person did one with air flow down by the SSRA or FTRA scoop, I guess the nostrils didn't get much air according to what I was reading. But I didn't do the test so I can't back it up... Either way I doubt the gains are very much unless at high speeds so whateva lol.

I agree, gains are only at high speeds.. My hood seals to the front of my airbox too... Like so:
