  • Want it, don't know why

Interested in some feed back on changing rocker arm ratios. What is the stock ratio and what would be safe in a stock LS1 motor? I've see 1.6, 1.7, and 1.8.

In addition to that I would like to get a set of long tube headers. Will the headers bolt up to my stock y pipe or do I need to get an ORY pipe. I'm not apposed to getting rid of the cats if it makes a big difference. I already have the SLP Loud Mouth cat backs.

The only other thing I would like to do is change gears to 3.73 or 4.10. I really like hitting it hard 0-80 with no real plans for the drag strip.

If you need more info let me know.

A 1.85 ratio rocker wil give you 10% increase in valve lift over the stock 1.7

General rule for gears, 4.10 for 6 speeds and 3.73 for auto's

Headers require a y-pipe. Some header packages include y-pipes some come seperate.

Feel free to send me a pm for pricing on what ever you decide.

The gears are up to you. I'd do some research and see what the difference's are, and what you want to obtain. Of course, the 4.10's will give you better acceleration, but will have you in a higher rpm in 6th on the freeway. Example: in 6th gear at 80mph I'm below idle at about 1200rpm; I have 3.73's.

Just do some research to see what you want to accomplish. I'd watch out for the 10 bolt though. Good luck!

I recommend staying away from 4.10s if you are going to be doing serious power mods in the future - reason being youd run out of 4th gear at the track and have to shift to fifth.

If I ever get a 9" Ill probably do 4.56s

If he gets fast enough to run >120 in the 1/4, that 10 bolt will be long gone.

He said street runs, so I doubt he'll be going to the track.

As far as the gears go I'm going to wait till the M&G to talk to more people. So 1.85 rockers, long tube headers and ORY. Probably should get a tuner also.

What Are the rockers going to for me. will the really add a noticeble power gain with the headers.

it would be like putting a small cam in it. i would think it would work great with headers. and you dont have to take the heads off lol

I wouldn't spend money on rockers at this point. Headers and ORY, gears then I'd put the money into having a good shop put a tune on the car. Don't waste your coin on a handheld tuner either.

I was a bit leary on the rockers in the first place. I'll stick with exhaust and gears for now. I'm sure its the best money spent for what I want. Whats better stainless or ceramic coated.

Side note pulled air cleaner off and checked the TB no where near 90*. Got the grinder out and its pretty close now.

It's been a while, but I really like the ceramic headers that were coated inside and out. I believe I heard that if they're just coated outside, they'll last as long as painted (which I can attest to, ran that kind on the '79 once), but when they're fully (in/out) coated, the coating is FAR superior to chrome and won't blue and change color like stainless.
