        my setup

lt4 hot cam, 1.6 rockers, stock stall, 342 gears, stock heads, intake, injectors, tb. long tubes, 13.8 at milan 4300# with me in it. On street tires and spinning with a 2.1 60ft.12 to 12.4 air ratio he only turned it at 5442 rpm with 283 hp at the wheels with 278 tq. on a 90 deg. day. the more he leaned it the more it lost not a fair test to hot and this was done on a tight mustang dyno. I happy with it the next step would be lt4 heads and intake again old school but will take a beating.

I bought a pair of stock aluminum LT1 heads (Caprices came stock with iron) and ported them at home. They started out at 208/145 CFM stock, but after porting I had them flowing 243/188 CFM. I bought a Comp CC503 cam, Pro Magnum roller rockers, and a set of Comp 981 springs. With the correct spring seats, those will fit on the stock heads. In addition to that, I bought a 2500 stall converter from Roadrunner converters and a set of 3.73 gears. Also purchased a mail order tune from PCMforless. After installing all of those things, my ET dropped from a 14.82@95 MPH in cool spring weather to a 13.42@104 MPH in 80 degree August weather on street tires. This is in a car that weighed 4770 lbs. with me in it! Your car probably weighs 1100-1200 lbs. less, so you'd be in the mid 12's for sure. Don't even mess with the LT4 hotcam... it's an old tech cam and the Comp CC503 would be just as drivable. I had NO issues with vacuum for my brakes and had an 850 RPM idle.
Curious -- Comp Cams recommends the 986-16 in the cc503 instructions, how come you went with 981?

Dont get comp 918s, get PAC 1218s. Comp 918s used to be the PACs sold under comp's name... and lately Comp changed suppliers and they have been breaking. I would imagine that comp has fixed this issue by now (at least they should have), but still not a chance i would take.

Totally a mistake on my part... I was looking at a different spring box I had laying around. I DID run 986's on my LT1.

Alright people we need to consider that Brian is a newbie to the V8 World let alone a cammed V8. Althought we know he's responsible this may put him over the edge.
Brain I've always been a follower of the KISS philosophy (Keep It Simple Stupid) With that said the LT4 Hotcam is probably the best choice in regards to cost, powergains, reliability, and the fact that it'll be enough for your limited exoerience.
Sorry bud just looking out for your welfare besides you need to crawl before you can walk.

BTW I should add that a 6spd would make the swap even better.

Yeah, the LT4 is definitely seems to be the best bang for the buck, but the cc503 sounds so damn good

                                ok

I think we should line them up for Brian to hear, see,and test RIDE, THAT RIGHT TEST RIDE IN. Then take the cars to the track, sorry you guys that spray & charged, motor only to see what they do, not what they say they do. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah and film it.I won't be last but I know that I won't be first. Then add up what we spent to see if it was worth the money spent. The mistake that I did was not to order the complete package for a lt4 heads, intake, cam, rockers, chain, plus bolts and gasket.Still can get it but not with a gm intake.
