  • Pacesetter 3.8l Header install

Well tonight I began the header install. Got the ypipe off, spark plugs out, heat shields off, and then soaked the manifold bolts in some penatrating oil for the night so hopefully they won't break when I go to remove them. Going to get the old manis off tomorrow and throw on the Headers, can't wait!

Then it is time to do the !pass wire mod and shave the door moldings.

Well got the old manifolds off, no broken bolts! I am really happy about that. Put the passenger header on and tightened it up. Taking a break for some food right now, then going out to put the drivers side on.

Both 02 sensors came out of the manifolds just fine, however the one in the ypipe I had to heat it up and unfortunetely the threads were messed up bad. Going to have to buy a new sensor for the ypipe on monday.

The install isn't that bad, just really time consuming if you only have one person like I do for the most part except for when my dad comes out and helps every once in a while.

Also I have been taking pics as I go. Will get them all up once I am all done.

A little of both, whatever I could reach I would from the bottom. Both of the old manifolds came out the bottom no problem with the heat shields off them.

Uploading pics right now and then will post here some pics.

Here are some pics, I will be posting in the tech forum how to install them when all done welding the y pipe and everything.

In the air ready to begin

Y-pipe cut out just in front of the cat. I was going to replace my cat but it looks like new yet inside.

Driver's side manifold off, old gaskets still on it (I did replace them too )

              Passenger side manifold off

Old manifolds and y pipe after removing them

Pacesetter headers and ypipe ready to be installed

              Passenger Side Header installed

I am debating on removing my EGR or not right now. I can tune it for the code it would throw with my hp tuners, and it would clean up the engine bay. hmm....

Lookin good and easy! I can see already how much difference there is between stock and aftermarket headers! Gotta get me some of them. Later this year maybe once I pay off my current mods...

Took it for a ride today, sounds real good, just gotta weld up the cat area some more, there is a slight leak there yet on top which is a pain to get at for welding.

                          Sound clip coming tonight.
