exhaust question

Im getting close to doing exhaust on my car. I have the basic boltons but that is prob all i will do. i am trying to decide between 2 different setups.

How much power diff is there and will the cheaper way sound bad?


Cheaper- new y pipe, remove cat, electric cutout and custom cat back

Cant afford- headers + the rest

Its gonna be a pretty big cost difference and im just not sure its worth it right now. Any help would be appreciated.

Just remember that. It'll sound fine without them - but better with 'em.

I'd say compromise. Get the Longtubes with an off-road y-pipe and leave the stock catback for now, then once you get some more cash buy a cutout and or a catback.

^^^i agree...figure a couple hundred for a Y pipe, buy a muffler, buy the pipe and have it bent etc...by the time it's all said and done, you could have bought a really nice set of used headers...and you'll probably see way more power gains too...if you plan on ever getting longtube headers, buying an aftermarket Y right now would kinda be a waste...headers and no cat should still sound pretty mean!!

my current muffler is pretty shot right now. It sounds like shit. It is basicly falling apart at the seems

i see your from GR...i work/grew up in the wyoming area, i have a friend i can call tomorrow who MIGHT have a muffler laying around for cheap...

if you need a temporary muffler, i have a brand new dynomax for $20, 2.5" single outlet

nothing special but until you could afford something better

if you're gonna get a custom cat back do not have a shop bend the pipe and then put it on yourself, have them put it on because if it doesnt fit right they have to eat the cost and bend another.

Id say save up for the long tubes.. all else fails have a garage sale to help you on your way of a new exhaust.

Thanks for all the good info guys, im leaning towards just doing everything at once. im working with shon at herron performance on a deal for all the parts. more curious to know what labor is gonna cost to install everything.

im waiting for a quote back on the folowing.

pacesetter longtube headers, pacesetter y pipe
o2 extensions
locking header bolts
electric cutout

and possibly cat back system

Anyone had something similar installed, any ballpark on price? with or without catback?

i have a flowmaster for sale if you are interested. just took it off this past weekend and had the hooker installed. its a tranverse muffler so it will sit in the stock location. $50 and ill drop it off

Do a cutout and a cheap muffler... or open Y pipe
I run cutout always open and does not get old, and ran Open Y for 2 days.
I would run open Y if i didn't stay out till 3 in the morning and want to park in a a garage spot at that time but i might need to just do it anyways, sounded pretty sick(not as good as LT and cutout) but..
