i got my car running again took the carb in and had it rebuilt i even got to help. but got it home and put it on got the car running and it ran good and then i t went to die so i gave it a little gas and something internal in the carb is sucking way to much air it is really loud. and i rebuild the carb with the locall mechanic and he is a really good mechanic. but at least it runs again since i have been having so much trouble.

Just a thought, but maybe the noise could be a vacuum leak? Will it idle at all or does it die if you don't give it any gas?

it will start and idle but it started sputering just that once and now you can hear it suck air really loud the noise is coming from inside the primaries on the top of the carb and a peice of the choke is sticking so mabey that has something to do with it i am not sure. if you want i can take pics of the piece that is sticking.

it should run fin without it but does it help any when you put the filter assembly on?

i didnt put that on, i timed the car and decided to let it run for a few minutes because my sister hadent heard it run and then it started to sputter so i gave it some gas and we found out it was sucking air. and there is a piece of linkage that after the engine starts and the primaries open it is suposed to drop half way down and then when you give it gas and the primaries come all the way open it is suposed to drop all the way down. and it will drop but it wont come back up like it is suposed to after the engine shuts off.

how much $ do you have? i think those edelbrock carbs are pretty easy to use. maybe you need a new carb?

This may be irrelevant, but if you floor it will the secondaries open?

i really dont know they would not open at the top before the rebuild and i dont remember them opening today what does that meen i just thought my engine was a wimp. they open on the bottom of the carb but not on the top

I am not very familiar with 3rd gen carbs but I'm pretty sure the front two butterflies are the primaries and the rear two are the secondaries. I don't know what you mean by top and bottom unless your talking about the choke? Also these carbs have vacuum secondaries, right? I really don't know all that much about these carbs, just trying to help.

I think I might know what you mean now. Are you saying that the flap above the secondaries butterflies does not open?

this carb is from the early 70's. i meant the top of the carb and the bottom of the the carb. and yes the front butterflies are the primaries and they are the small one and the back butterflies are the secondaries and they are the big ones. this is a manual choke. carter carb. this carb is not origanal to a 3rd gen. i dont have the electric plugs for a carb from a 3rd gen.

on top of the carb when you floor the gas the front valve opens (the primaries) but the back valve (the secondairies) wont open

Check to see if the diaphragm for the secondaries has a leak.
