a guy on craigslist says he has a bored mass airflow sensor. he is selling it but he said on his stock 96 z28 he ran 13.32 at 104 mph. can u get those results just from a mass air flow sensor? 8-O

The same way you would bore metal, wood, anything. To do it properly it would need to be in a lathe with a boring bar. But I'm sure you could get away with doing it with a die grinder or something if you really wanted to but it would be worse than boring it. Here's the problem, there are little sensor wires in there that run across the I.D. and they have to be there.Originally posted by Keego Ridah View Postno hahahahaha, alot of people take the screens out of them which is stupid, i dont understand how you would bore plastic
Unless you are running over 500 hp, there is no need to go to a larger or ported/bored MAF, you could actually lose power because the larger I.D. will have less velocity so your incoming air will be slower moving.
Stick with what you got.

The ends are aluminum. THAT is what is "bored", but should be called ported. MAF's are a tricky thing. If you put a big one on a stock car it can really mess things up and run worse. As for removing the screen, I have done this on my car. It flows more CFM without the screen and Z06's had a screenless MAF. If you have a straight shot into the MAF as in an LS1, then you can get away with the screen being removed. If you have a LT1 where it has to turn from the air intake, you want to keep the screen to straighten out the air so the sensor gets a better reading.
I wouldn't waste time with a ported MAF, you might better get a ported throttle body, you'll get better results.

hmm, i took my screen out back when my car was stock, now I have a elbow there where my supercharger shoves the air in, think I should put the screen back in then? seems like the air would be getting shoved so fast I wouldnt really have to worrry about the air being straightened, or should I?Originally posted by GETGONE View PostThe ends are aluminum. Agreed all that air still has to go through the most restrictive point so porting the ends won't do much. I had the screen out on my 99 also, sold it that way, never had a problem. But like you said, straight shot on the LS1, LT1, I'd leave it in like Wade said.Originally posted by GETGONE View PostThe ends are aluminum. THAT is what is "bored", but should be called ported. Not dissagreeing, just saying you could do it.Originally posted by Keego Ridah View Postyea but the plastic is so thin on a MAF you couldn't possibly go to far with it, its pointless . . .
Wouldn't think it would matter how fast it was going. The screen would straighten in no matter what. Since there is a turn now it might be good insurance to make sure it works properly. Otherwise it could give you problems. I think I would.Originally posted by redfbirdv6 View Posthmm, i took my screen out back when my car was stock, now I have a elbow there where my supercharger shoves the air in, think I should put the screen back in then? seems like the air would be getting shoved so fast I wouldnt really have to worrry about the air being straightened, or should I?

Ding Ding Ding... We have a winner!!!
its a sensor, if you change the size, it will change the reading going to the computer and confuse the crap out of your car. Any gain in flow will be lost becuase of sensor error.

hmm, i think ill just leave my screen out judging by that then, I believe my bro tweeked my MAF sensor through hptuners to handle the substancial gain in airflow from the SC.Originally posted by DanO View PostDing Ding Ding... We have a winner!!!
