What do you guys prefer Trick Flow or Dart...?

  • #2
i honestly dont know much about darts. trick flows seem to be a popular choice, but most people use ported stock castings.

yep, lloyd is the man when it comes to porting stock heads. I have a set of stock heads i plan on sending to him but i dont have the money for it yet.

depends what you are doing and what your budget is. have you done any homework on this on the tech forums (camaroz28.com, ls1tech) ? Trick flow heads have superior flow to stock LT1 heads as they sit, but you can port a stock LT1 casting to flow better than a trick flow... however you can also port the trick flow to flow more than the ported stocker.

THE PROBLEM with Trick Flow heads is that they are 62cc cumbustion chambers - which is bigger than stock, meaning you lose compression. Unless you are running a stroker, or high compression piston you will have to get them milled down to achieve a proper compression ratio. Its not a big deal, but they arent "ready to go" out of the box, youre going to spend some more money on them.

The Lloyd Elliot stage 1 port package is a great bang for the buck at $825 (requires you to send a set of stock heads). You can also chech out his other options if you have more money to throw around. Whatever the case, at least consider your options before you buy a set of heads that negate their own gain from compression loss

              here's Lloyd's packages:

hmm. interesting.. i wonder if theres anyway to figure out what i have... I was told by my neighbor (that dumped countless dollars into my TA) and If i recall correctly he said I have Trick Flow heads... but if you said a bunch had to be done to get them to work properly; kind of makes me think twice

getting them milled is not really a "bunch" of work... you drop them off at a machine shop and they mill them down.

CNC ported heads are best, hands-down. There is no way a human being can hand-cut 2 sets of 8 ports alike. The end
