  • Cutout(s).

Okay, I really, really want to get an electric cutout for my car ('86 IROC). I can't get enough of scaring the shit out of people at school in the parking lot with a muffler, so I need a cutout.

So, I have a few questions.

    1) Do I need one or two - it Y's pretty early.

    2) What do I do about subframe connectors? (I'd like to get a pair)

    3) Will those DMH low-profile ones work/what kind should I get?

what kind of exhaust setup do you have? chances are one will do just fine. Mine is located just in front of the axle and it definitely makes some noise. it sounded good before i had headers too, just not nearly as loud.

I dont have a low profile one either, and i can still nearly fit an upright pop can under it. the low profile ones are for header y-pipes on lowered cars usually.

      Umm.

I have a pair of Edelbrock TES headers, with the Edelbrock Y-pipe that is included. Then it looks like factory pipes (2.25"? - If so, I'll have to upgrade to 3" sometime, since these are compression bent) all the way back to the Flo-Pro muffler, then out.

well if you want to spend the money on dual cutouts (and if you can fit them) they definitely do their thing a little better. Otherwise id say upgrade your exhaust and get a single 3"

Yeah, I'm not big into "tons of money spent" right now, so, I do want to get that 3" exhaust, but all I really need is the primary pipe from the y-pipe to the muffler, mandrel bent. Does anyone actually sell that (summit or jegs?)

just get a 3" pipe and have an exhaust shop bend it

they charged me $2 per bend (2 bends = $4)

or you can buy mandrel bends on summitracing and 3" pipe

Yeah, and then I'm sure they can supply me with a piece that goes from 2.5" to 3".

The tailpipes are compression bent too...I wonder if they can just change those too and re-weld the tailpipes on - and have both be equal. One sticks out further than the other.

That pipe that goes from the cat to the muffler is called the intemediate pipe by summit. I just bought a 3" mandrel bent from them this summer. It was walker pipe I think. No matter the brand they have it. Don't remember the price - rest of my exhaust was so darn expensive that piece was pretty insignificant.
