right, theres nothing wrong with boosting an LT1 if you do it knowing that you might be building your motor to boost specs later after you puff the stock setup.

Someday my motor is going to be boosted. I prefer to have a turbo. When I get the money to go this route I'm going to have my bottom end built up. I've been quoted around $3,000 for a bottom end build with all forged parts and stock bore. My goal is to own a reliable LT1 that I can drive everyday and make over 400 hores at the wheels. If I didn't have to worry about building the motor up I wouldn't have any problem spending $6,000 for a Procharger kit and calling it good. Until a decently price turbo kit comes out I'm looking at well over $10,000 for a motor build, and turbo kit. Thats not including a new rear end, or clutch. Right now this is the best kit I can find for the LT1.

if your looking for reliable 400 hp, boost is not for you. IMO, if im spending the money on a FI kit, necessary fuel, guages, built bottom end, im going to want more than 400 hp. You might be saying thats all you want now, but once you feel boost, you'll want more, trust me. I say bump your goal up to 600 hp reliable every day car if you want to go boosted

When I do it I'm definitely going with you guys. I've heard that Golen engines are mid grade compared do you guys.

I say 400 horsepower because I don't plan on doing anything wild to the heads or aggressive cam profile. Basically all I want is a bullet proof stock LT1 that has lower compression and forged everything. With that combo I'm sure it will make 500 crank horsepower on medium boost levels and a good tune. Thats honestly all I'm looking for.

then why spend all that money? By forging the internals, your opening up a completely new ball game. If you just do a mild head/cam combo, you should be right about 400 rwhp. And thats CONSIDERABLY less $$$$

The lovely thing about boost is, crazy heads and cams arent needed. In fact, heads arent NEARLY as important of a component when going FI vs a NA motor. And usually turbo engines like smaller cams anyway. I say your crazy if your going to spend all that money on that combo and only use 400 rwhp. Thats me though. That combo could be reliable at WAY higher levels.

                    Very true.

About a year ago we built a engine for cjmatt, a camaroz28.com member. It was a 355cid LT1 with unported LT1 factory cylinder heads, STOCK Throttle body, STOCK Intake Manifold mid length headers. At 10psi from his Vortech T-Trim the vehicle made over 500rwhp, on a very conservative dyno. Matt has since upgraded to a Vortech YSI, and plans are to make 600+rwhp, and still retain the stock unported LT1 cylinder heads.

yep his new setup is awesome. he is also one of the ones that blew their stock motor with boost. He told me he only had 30k on the stock motor when it gave out... and thats all his odometer read so i believed it.

Yes, his stock engine gave up the fight early.
