| Well i have just add to my family a 1992 camaro RS. The problem is that is is blowing black smoke at mid-high RPM. I drove it home from ohio saturday. It was smoking when i step on it a lil bit. my dad was saying it was just bad gas or it need a tune up. Also i think i was getting about 13mpg high way if my math is right. The next day The car would not start up. SO i was thinking it was just out of gas cuz it was on E. So when I Take off the fliter hoseing I see oil in side of it. Also was not the best looking . So wheni went to start the car to show my dad it would not run. It turned over with one crank easy. So i guess the bad fliter was choking the motor off on the trip giving me bad MPG. Well I think that it mite be a blow head gasket or a fried ring. But mlike i said befor the car runs stroung with out a miss, stutter or stall. SO what do u think it is? What motor will bolt in to the car hard ware with out cutting or welding? tbi 350 ,tbi 454, lt1 350, gen 2 chevy 35o, gen 2 chevy 400 will any 350 bolt in place? what will i need? |

Black smoke could be a ring going bad...probably not a head gasket. It's also might be a sign of running rich, which would explain the bad mpg. Maybe a bad mass air flow sensor. Pull the plugs and see what they look like...if they're black, you're running too rich...if they're black and oily, you have more than one problem.
Any SBC will fit without too many issues...BBC, and you have some work ahead of you...quite a bit.
That, and if you don't reinforce things (i.e. cage, SFCs), a BBC's torque will twist the car badly.Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED! do a compression test and do a leak down test if its low. if its low compression and if it goes up with the leak down then its the rings.sigpic
