  • Need Some Help with Wiring Harness Please

Hello group, i need a little help with a wiring harness issue im having. My 94 Z28 was actually a 94 Camaro from factory....It came with the V6. The previous owner installed the lt1 and what looks to be a hacked and whacked motor harness in it. Well, i found a brand new motor wire harness with computer and the VAT removed. The guy says the computer was programmed for a 93 Vette so i assume i will have to get it re programmed? Anyways, as far as the dash and power doors etc, is there any difference between the camaro v6 harness and the lt1 harness on the inside of the car? If i get this new motor harness, do you see any potential problems? The guy said he sent the harness to Florida and had it made into a stand alone harness....will this matter?

    Thanks!IMG_20120402_130518.jpgIMG_20120402_130451.jpg

Im not an expert but the 93 lt1s have a prom chip, so when you tune it you get a new chip vs sending your whole PCM in (assuming its a mail order) also, the 93s had a 700r4 trans (non electronic) compared to the 4L60e. I'm sure there is a difference in wiring there too. You're better off going to a junkyard and getting one for cheap. Just my opinion.

I would avoid a stand alone harness when using it for a specific application

Also, I'd have to look into the diagrams for the year. Earlier years tied into the main bulkhead and the rest of the harness went to the passenger side ECM with an offshoot tied into the IP harness. They changed often, many from year to year.

There are 2 harnesses under the hood on an early 4th gen. 1. engine harness - which is the pcm and the engine harness. 2. the other harness is the fuse boxes and large connector through the fire wall, it runs over to and connects to engine/pcm harness by 2 plugs on top of passenger side wheel well. There are 2 small pig tails that go through firewall on passenger side under PCM. If you had a v6 that was changed to a v8 the pcm and engine harness would all have to be changed with the swap. the basic v6 front harness is fine you only need to run a couple wires to fire the added injectors and that is taped into the pass wheel well plugs.

Many thanks 98blackbeauty. I can see where the previous owner has added the wiring for the extra injectors and some other stuff. Only problem I have had so far is when I got the car, both left and right o2 sensors were unplugged. I hooked the passenger side up first to test it. As soon as the motor started I seen smoke roll up from where the o2 plugin was that I had just hooked up. After getting up under the car I noticed that some of the plastic insulation had melted from the wires. I did notice before I plugged the sensor that both ends of the plugins were soaked in old oil from the motor swap. Would this oil have caused a short? From what I read the sensors for the v8 and v6 are supposed to be the same......is this correct?
                  Thanks,
                  Stephen
