  • no spark please help

ok my 1989 camaro 305 tbi was running but i could tell it needed a tune up so i put a new coil, cap, rotor, plugs, and wires on it and when i went to start it back up i have no spark. I do still have pulse to the injectors but no spark. i took a tester and check all the wires i could find and i have no power running to the distributor or coil. I checked all of the fuses and they all turned out good and i had my icm tested and it came back good. so now everyone is telling me its my ignition switch but i just replaced that not even a month ago and y would it go bad just like that. i drove the car not 20 min before i put the new parts on and had no problems and now theres no power going to the dist. im really confused and cant afford to have my car down and out. please help.

I will be on here to check for answers as much as possible but i dont get a chance to use the computer much so if u have Questions or ideas u can get ahold of me fast by calling 517-499-9155

    thank u

If you aren't getting 12 volts on the larger pink wire going to the coil then then the issue stems back to the ignition switch.

If the engine cranks, the fusable link is good and means you're getting power to the switch. No power the the coil means broken (or possibly shorted) wire or burnt circuit in the ignition switch.

Remember, the ingnition lock cylinder is not the ingnition switch. The key always the lock cylinder to turn which then operates the ignitition switch - which is further down the steering column.

the ignition switch down on the steering colunm is about a month old but i went and ordered another 1 that will be in tomorrow. but now my car wont even try to turn over. when i turn the key everything turns on fuel pump and everything kicks on but it wont engage the starter now.

check for power coming into that switch. Did you get a AC Delco replacement or a cheap one?

Possible VATS issue, unlikely since you were getting crank and injector pulse but no spark before

89 has anti theft. Starter enable relay is in the kick panel area
