  • Factory alarm problems on 97 Trans-Am

Ok, so whenever you lock the doors and arm the alarm, a few seconds later the alarm starts going off. When that happens it'll stop if you press the panic button like normal. It even does this if you lock the doors with the switches inside the car, but naturally doesn't do it when manually locking the doors with the slider.

We're thinking it might be the BCM as nothing with the wiring looks out of place.

    So, a couple questions:

1.) Is there a BCM in a 94 f-body, and if so, is it interchangeable with the one in my 97 Trans-Am?
2.) If it's not the BCM, what else could be causing this problem

You need a bcm out of a 96 or 97 fbody. I had the same issues.

Thanks, that's what we figured. Do you have to program it somehow or can you buy a used one from those years and just throw it in?

Yes just throw it in. It's a difficult part to get out and back in fyi.

I actually have an extra bcm for the future.

I don't suppose you're willing to sell it?

Haha, that's cool. Reading online though I'm a little confused... is this something you can buy used and use with zero problems, or do I need a brand new one for everything to work? I'm reading it programs itself to your key's VATS chip the first time it's powered on and then is not programmable after that. Would kinda suck if I bought one and my key couldn't start the car.
