  • No spark after new parts. 2.8

    I'm at a loss...

    First off, it's a 1987 Pontiac Firebird. With a 2.8l

    New parts
    icm
    coil
    wires
    Plugs
    battery
    fuel pump

Im not receiving spark from the coil.

I read 12v from the power to the coil with key on, but during cranking, it drops down to 10. Is this normal?

And I believe I have a dead alternator, would this affect anything?

    Thanks in advance, Niko.

Voltage drop is normal, depending on where youre getting you readings from. Alternator will not affect cranking in any way.

100% positive the coil is getting a good ground?

Where does it ground, from a wire, or from the straps?

It ran for about 3 miles, then crapped out and hasnt started since.

I'm not sure on the 2.8, but the 5.0 and 5.7 have grounds on the back of each head

Alright, I took the icm to autozone, and they replaced it.

          Installed, yet still no spark.

the only part I haven't replaced is the pick up, how do I test it? With a DMM?

Update, new pickup coil. And distro rebuild, she runs, not well, I'm afraid she has a exhaust leak, and needs to be timed.

Thank you to everyone who gave me suggestions.
