  • battery ?

i have a 1995 trans am with the lt1 and i wanna get a good battery for it.....is the red top optima the best way 2 go ? thanks

Honestly I've had very good luck with the Autozone Durolast Gold batteries. They last about 8 years of daily driving in and out of the cold weather.

Interstate batteries are supposed to be good as well.
I think the Optima batteries are over rated unless your really using them with high current draw devices etc.

I am on my 2nd red top in 2 years and the one I have is flacky. It will soon be replaced. Only reason getting red top again is I have a 3 year warranty.

I would go with an Interstate or parts store battery. If you do advance auto use a coupon code online to save some $$.

A Group 75 battery is what your car calls for whichever you choose.

            Just for reference of warranty
            Durolast Gold Lead acid:
3 year free replacement warranty - 8 year pro rated warranty $100.

            Optima Red Top (Gel Cell):
3 year free replacement warranty - no pro rated warranty $200.

            Interstate Mega-Tron 700cc performance Battery
3 year free replacement - no pro rated warranty but reference 6 year life $100

I also use Retail-Me-Not to find coupons for Advance Auto. Many times when they have better coupons through R-M-N than they do on their site.

Optimas use to be a good battery when they came out. Now they are junk and they just kept the name because people are like "oh yeah I got an Optima".

              Much better batteries out there.
