  • Quick tuning question

I know some of you guys know a lot about tuning so I have question for ya. I need to do some data logging on my '96 OBDII camaro, so I need an ALDL cable. Among doing a bunch of research, it seems that an OBDII cable won't work on 96+ models, they say I'll need an allinone scan tool, I got all this info on lt1pcmtuning.com which led me to the "allinone" tool for post 95 cars. It said the OBDII cable for 94-95's wont work with 96+ cars because "Although the connector style is the same, 96 and later cars use the OBD2 communications protocol, and are not backward compatible to earlier year cars". Could you please give me some insight on this. I really need to see what's going on with this car. I'm just trying to find out if there is just an ALDL cable that will work with my car without all that extra crap. Thanks in advance.
THis is the allinone site: http://www.aldlcables.com/sc/details.asp?item=obd2usb

That scan tool is WAY overpriced, and you won't be able to edit anything with it. OBDII cars are expensive to tune

I know people use HPTuners with OBD2 cars, but even their scanner which just allows you to read the data is $350.. Hopefully someone familiar with OBD2 cars can chime in.

As I said swap to a OBD1 PCM. The connector on a 95 is a OBD2 connector but OBD1 PCM.

        Converting a 96/97 obd2 car to obd1.

Doing it yourself requires two parts.

        1. An obd1 lt1 PCM. This can be flashed to work with your car. (auto or manual, different car, and gearing)

        2. An obd1 knock SENSOR. NOT KNOCK MODULE.

Go on Tech and buy a PCM from someone. It will come with the knock module for that PCM in it then I can flash it for you.

I have my old PCM in the back of my Cruze, its fried. I was suppose to send it to TunerCats and they would fix it. Just been lazy haha, I should get on it.
