  • WOT Sputter? Hmmmmmm..

i dont know what section this goes to but I figure this is close enough eh?
Anyway The car has been stuttering upon heavy acceleration whether it be from a stand still or at cruising speed. Ive just had the o2 sensor replaced and my cat is only 6 months old. My check engine light came back on recently, soo im about to go plug the scanner into it and see what the light is all about. I know a million things could be the cause but where do I start? Ive had the stutter for a little while now since before the new cat, the 3.73 gears and the 02 sensor replace.

Yeah its only on heavy acceleration, I just went out and bought a new fuel filter. i dont have time to replace that today plus its a million degrees in Texas right now, i guess I'll have to eliminate the suspects one by one; Im still throwing a p0420 code but it might not be related to the sputtering. I just hit 101k and i dont know when the last time the fuel filter was changed so it probably needs replacing anyway. hopefully thats it, other than that the car runs very smooth just driving regularly.

My 85 Camaro has an idle/sputter issue as well, but its because of the throttle position sensor, so we think. If it is slightly loose the torque at the initial acceleration could cause it to malfunction. Idk if it will help you or not though.

maybe it is a spark or coil issue. On my old 3.8 I had it where i could drive the car lightly and it wouldn't sputter, but under a little bit of stress (not necessarily WOT) it would sputter. Turned out to be a coil pack-I'm not sure that this could be your issue since it is only at WOT though.. It could be any number of things. Check your codes and see if anything obvious comes up.

Its possible, ive been reading around on the issue and it seems that alot of people had coil pack issues, im just going through one by one for now, im replacing the fuel filter first. if that doesnt fix it i guess i'll move on to plugs or something.
