  • PCM is not locked(small rant)

So as some of you guys know I have thought for years my PCM was locked by the tuner.. The last shop to tune my car(since I've owned it) said they could not tune it because the PCM was locked and said my only option was a stand alone PCM(which died on me last summer) to run the nitrous tune... Appears I was either lied to or they don't know shit. I emailed the tuner today to ask how to unlock the PCM, here was his response(BTW it was Ed Wright who put the current tune in the car 6-7 years ago):

"Who told you it was locked? Anybody can tune it, no problem. If LS1 Edit has a problem reading it just use something else, or write over it with another tuning file. If your tuner uses LS1Edit just tell him to flash it with one of his own files and tune away. If uses something else he won't have any problems. Nothing I ever did would keep other people from programming the PCM."

his pcm didnt need a spare, he needed a diffrent tunner, sounds like his last guy was on crack and didnt know how to turn on the computer so he said it was locked and sent him on his way.

He(tuner) said it was locked and said I needed to purchase a stand alone computer for the N2O, I was very new to the LS1 world at the time and didn't know any better.. He just screwed me out of extra coin!!

Yeah, from my understanding, if your pcm is locked, you just grab a differant pcm, and reflash it. And the reason its good to have a spare is also so, if you fry a pcm during a flash (cause it happens) you dont have to scramble to locate another on short notice. I understand that his pcm was NOT locked, but rather than buy a stand alone setup for the nitrous, (which probably wasnt a bad idea anyways IMHO) he could have just threw in another pcm for a lot less, that was my point. And, fwiw, who was the "retarded tuner". Im going to be needing a dyno tune in the spring, and would like to know who to avoid. You can PM me the name if you want to keep it on the QT. Thanks a bunch Larry. Eric L

All Speed Performance in Muskegon. Stand alone was fine, but it fried after a year and they wouldn't stand behind it.. I have not even stepped in their shop in over a year..

No one at the moment. I am running the tune that came in the car when I bought it, Ed Wright. Probably won't be getting it tuned til next year now.. Was planning on going to Bakers..

There's been some speculation on tuning. That's all I'll say.

Tuning seems to be an issue all over the map now...
