Basically, what the title says. I switched.....well, I switched just about everything from the front to the back of the car last year, had a couple tweaks done to the tune, but can't find anywhere around the Redford area that has a clue what a CASE relearn is. The more I read about it, the more I think that's all I need to center the car out. Any suggestions, folks you know that can do this on weekends (due to the work schedule)? By the way, I will probably be going up to Woodward tonight (6-18), so anyone that has a scan tool that does this (Tech II, HPT, etc.), I'd be willing to pay for their time.

If the crankshaft variation relearn is not accessible through your scan tool, perform the relearn in the following manner:
1. Turn off all of the accessories. With the air temperature sensor and coolant temperature withing 5 degrees centrigrade of each other, start the engine and let it idle in park or neutral for two minutes.
2. Accelerate the vehicle to 55 mph at part throttle. Cruise at 55 mph for 8-10 minutes untill the engine reaches operating temperature.
3. Cruise at 55 mph for another 5-6 minutes.
4. Decelerate to 45 mph without using the brakes, and maintain 45 mph for one minute.
5. Perform 4 deceleration cycles, without using the brakes, of 25 seconds each where no specific speed is necessary. Returning to 45 mph for 15 seconds in between deceleration cycles.
6. Accelerate to 55 mph and cruise for two minutes.
7. Stop the vehicle and idle for 2 minutes with the brake applied and the transmission in drive (automatic trans.) or neutral (manual trans.) with the clutch depressed.
the CASE learn procedure is something that is built into the PCMs themselves. All the TechII, SnapOn, and PowrTuner does is send a short command to the PCM to start the proceedure. Then there are some confirmation messages sent back to the scanner and that is all the scanner does.
pulled off a few different 3800 forums/threads... but should help you out a bit....
The only thing that slightly worries me is that the bse files say 98+, but im assuming thats b/c some of the GM cars were still LT1 (maybe OBDI?) until then????
hope it helps2004 Impala LS (DD)

If I can stay up late enough, I may try this tonight. Just don't want a lot of traffic around when I'm doing this, so as not to get caught up in traffic.Originally posted by 04DetroitLS View Posthttp://www.bsecorp.com/files/techtips/ST9303l.pdf

Aha.
CASE Learn: To use the CASE learn function please follow these steps:
Put the vehicle into park (auto) or neutral (manual).
Turn off all accessories and A/C.
Turn the vehicle off.
Apply the parking brake.
Press the brake pedal. Keep the brake pedal depressed during the entire procedure. REQUIRED for successful test completion
Start the vehicle and let it idle.
Press Begin.
Gradually rev the vehicle to fuel cutoff (around 4000-5000 RPM's) over a period of about 4 seconds. When fuel cuts out, immediately release the throttle.
Allow the engine to come back to an idle.
Turn the ignition off for at least 15 seconds. This step is required for the VCM to store the newly learned configuration.
This is in HPT's vcm scanner though.

I think I may still do this, but the storm last killed my headlight motor, so it's not gonna sound pretty. I got a family thing at 12 noon, so give me a call.Originally posted by Fbomb View PostAll you need is the VCM scanner. I was going to meet up with him on Woodward or something tonight.sigpic

Well I got it done out on Woodward tonight, think it worked. I dunno. He said that the hesitation/slippage problem he had wasn't there anymore but I'm not sure if it was consistent or not. I'm still not exactly sure what the hell a CASE relearn even is but I know how to do it!
