Yes, the MSD cap and rotor kit is a retro-fit to make a non vented opti into a vented one. the only really major change you have to make to the car is drill a 3/16 hole in the elbow of the intake. just finished doing this to mine 4 hours ago

Do you have to buy the msd cap? or is there an alternative?

would this work? And then i would just have to get a hose and a fitting into intake elbow...sorry if im being cheap i just have dumped alot of money on my motor and cant afford the 130 dollar msd...

Is the engine in the car or is it half-way torn apart?

It might, but you know what they say, you get what you pay for. But all that time to replace the cap and rotor to just replace it with that just doesn't seen worth the effort.

And the MSD came with all the hoses to to the retrofit. I know it seems like i am trying to push the MSD , but the last thing I want you to do is to order some cheesy part, have it last 1,2, hell even 6 months, then have to re-do it. and i know there not fun to do, hell i even had a hoist and i was swearing up and down almost the whole time.

FWIW, my non vented 1994 opti lasted 145,000 miles, and the only reason i replaced it was because the motor was out of the car. It still worked fine. IMHO, your best bet is to take the factory cap off, remove the rotor screws, locktite the rotor screws and put them back in. Than put a SMALL bead of black rtv silicone around the seal of the cap and put it back together. Thats all ive ever done to mine and ive never had a problem. Hope this helps, Eric L

Might as well seal it so that no water or moisture at all can get into it Nick.

just drill a hole in your non-vented one!

they pretty much covered it though
