  • what optispark?

this winter i am completely rebuilding my motor, and while the motor is out i am going to replace the optispark while i am at it.. so i guess the question is which opti? i have heard nothing but bad things about the MSD one? anyone running it? alot of people just put a delco stock one back in it? what do you guys think? thank you!! also this is more of engine stuff but what rods should i run I or H i see that the eagle I holds 500.. my car should make about 400 at the wheels and then i will be spraying it 100 so i really dont think those will work? but has anyone used any of the ohio crankshaft suff? it looks pretty good and has a good price. thank you guys and hope you all had a good thanksgiving

I ran MSD on my stock LT1 then i built my 383 and ran it on that with no problem for about 30,000 miles between the two motors and it ran perfectly fine. and i sold the opti and the guy has put about another 50,000 on it and still nothing at all wrong with it. i would recommend either MSD or OEM Replacement. or go through DEL Teq and get the LS1 coil swap.

I've always heard good stuff about "theparts_ladi" or something like that from ebay.

unless you plan on making all that power while keeping it low RPM you should be looking in a direction other than the opti. Either LTCC, dynaspark, or LS1 PCM (opti-delete). Even an sbc distributor is an option.

LT1s are no longer "stuck" with the grief of the optispark.

i think that conversion is pretty cool, if you can budget it in. def like the extra controls the ls pcm has over the lt one.

if going opti, i'd just save the $$$ and use the delco one. i did that after killing a msd one on a na street motor. was pissed. all i did to the opti was open it up and put some thread locker on the 2 screws for the rotor. took my beatings and still holding up in jay_rich's turbo setup.

yea, delco is the only opti i would ever buy.

Its what im running right now because i cant afford anything more. I hit my pathetic 6200 rpm rev limiter like a champ

for your setup a stock opti with the usual "tricks" is fine. I have 58k miles on mine with no issues and plenty of taps off of my 6800rpm rev limiter.

I will be converting to the LS1 pcm or a FAST XFI, but for other reasons other than getting rid of the opti.

I get so tired of hearing all of the nutswingers that want to tell you how bad an opti is lol lets not make this into another one of those threads

me too...its not like its bad...its very accurate and does what it needs....its ability to survive some harsh conditions is well...questionable at times

i never really had any problems, but then, my car barely saw the rain, no winters, no drive thru car washes and such.

no mine is a 2 bolt studded mains and proud to say it! So many ppl out there are like, "ZOMG no 4 bolt main!!??!"

its not absolutely necessary, I will be spinning it much higher than 6800 and not looking back. that hotcam really likes the rpm
