  • Driver side fan not working

The driver side cooling fan won't turn on at all. its plugged in and all my grounds are good, all my other electrical works just fine. The fan comes on when you hardwire it up so I know the motor works and I replaced all of the relays with no luck. The temp sensor works just fine so I know thats not the problem. The pass side fan works fine on low and high. The car actually doesn't get very hot but if I sit in traffic and it gets past 180 for a while only the pass side is helping to keep it cool. Do you guys have any ideas?

could be broken wire or corroded plug. check wire diag. measure continuity from relay point to fan plug. this will point out broken wire.
let me know if that doesn't do it.

Computer actually turning it on? Im almost certain my car only runs 1 unless it gets hot. Like is there power to the relay trigger pin?

I'm not sure on the ls cars but A/C turns the one fan one bypassing temp. Do you still have A/C on car? If so turn it on.

I will try the a/c and check continunity as well, but I know for sure that both fans are supposed to come on for low and high settings. Phil pointed this out to me a while ago and thought it was a relay but no luck and its getting annoying now.

Jeff I think the wiring might be the same on lt's and ls cars.
When relay #1 picks, Signal from ECU dk grn, both fans run low speed. This is accomplished because the +12 series through both motors. Rt side fan has 1 term. to grd.
Relay 2 & 3 both pick from Ecu dk blu wires. relay 3 then supplies grd to left motor high speed. relay 2 does the same thing for right fan only it suppies +12 because other side is grd.
            Summary:
relay 1 only both fans low speed
relay 1,2,3, both fans high speed.
relay 2,3 right fan high speed.

ok I haven't check if the relay is getting power because I would have to take the car out and drive it for a while for it to even reach 180 (temp that both fans should kick on low) but I did turn on the a/c and it didn't do anything for the driver side fan.

Yeah I tried also on mine I think I was confused. the plug on the passenger side wheel well is where the dark green and blue wire is or pull the relay and check for grd on one side of coil. the one side of the relay is hot and the ECU supplies grd to pick relay.
