  • Need Some Help, "SECURITY" flashing and car will not turn over!!!

    Hi Everyone,

Went to try and pull the car (1999 Trans Am) in the garage last night and it would not turn over. I noticed the "SECURITY" light is flashing.

Can someone help me get my car started again please?

    Thanks

Do the 98+ still have the black chip in the key? If so, try cleaning off the contacts. If not, your BCM might be going bad.

Yes, still have the wonderful GM VATS keys. The keys are only 6 months old though, had them cut and programmed by the dealership in December.

It may be that your BCM needs to relearn the key. Switch the ignition to "RUN" and leave it there for 20 minutes. I had to do this for a couple different GM vehicles in the past.

i agree with formulation. i just had the same thing happen this morning on a 00 grand am. the light will stop blinking so turn the key off and it should start right up.

Jesus! The STOOOPID things we have to do to get these cars to "learn", like the CASE learn proc. I know it works.....but how???! Then everything is hunky dory. Sheesh! The GM security is harder on the owner than the thief! Like the theflock on the radios. All that rigamaro just to get it to work, should it not like the way it came out. Doesn't HP tuners have a way to shut off the vats?

So today is just not my day I guess. I got home from work and put the key in the run position like suggested. Then the girlfriend tells me she has an emergency homeowners meeting and I have to watch the puppy. Well after being crated all day, he is freakin' crazy and bouncing off the walls. After the puppy did a good job of keeping me distracted for a couple hours, I finally remember about the key... Too bad my battery is dead by now and the battery charger is on loan to my brother in law...I hope tomorrow is a better day...
