  • msd Ignition box

I have a msd 6al box just laying around which i was thinking about putting it in my car . would it be a good idea or would it be to just much for it? I have 8.5mm plug wire, msd coil, ngk spark plug, k&n air intake, and msd cap and rotor when i get more money ill put some headers and a cam in it.

I've heard of nothing but problems with the 6's. Whats all done to your car anyways to need this?

I don't really have a need for these, some people want them some don't, i really see no reason to do this on a close to stock car.

I have never heard of any problem with the 6al. My car has an lt1 swap with a msd coil, msd cap and rotor, 8.5mm plug wires, ngk v power plugs, k&n cold air intake, flowmaster muffler some time in the near future headers, cam, and prolly some more bolt ons. I was just thinking of using it cause i already have one from my dads car when we upgraded to 6al2

I've never had a problem with a 6al box. The improvement on a basicly stock motor will be minimal. But if your intentions are to add a cam etc. The benefits increase as you add more to the motor.

yeah i didn't think it would do much the way my car was know but i figured once my swap was done and i can save money again i can do more performance stuff to the box would be a nice feature.

Hes thinking of the digital 6, thats what they had all the problems with. I ran 9.64 @ 143 mph on a 15 year old 6al and an equally old (they do fade with age, a lot of people dont know this) blaster 2 coil, lol. The 6al will forever be the best entry level ignition box ever, period. BUT..........I agree, I dont think it will do a lot on a stock opti setup. If you were spraying it would be a nice addition because the revlimiter in our cars pulls fuel, and the msd pulls spark. Just my .02, Eric L

on you 9.64 quarter what did you have for an ignition set up along with the 6al box. i need to replace my distributor and was gunna go MSD opti with one of MSD's blaster coils, but the stock style replacement, jsut with higher voltage and lower resistance. what did you run for a coil and opti?
